Family Law Attorney
Law Clerk Job 19 miles from Webster
At O'Connor Family Law, we are committed to change. Why is change important? Because it is exactly what people going through a family law issue have to do - their lives are completely changing, and our job is to empower them through the family law process so that they have incredible post-litigation lives. It's also important because it represents our firm's values:
C - Courage: It takes courage to do the right thing when no one else is looking; to stand up for the underdog; to do new things and step out of your comfort zone. But without change, you'll never find out how amazing your life can be!
H - Honesty: We tell the truth even when it's hard or not what someone wants to hear. We do the right things when no one is looking. It's understanding everyone makes mistakes, but being open to learning from them rather than seeing them as a negative.
A - Ambition: We strive to be even just 1% better today than we were yesterday because small, incremental changes create huge results! We don't compete against anyone else but ourselves. We always look for ways to grow and improve in everything that we do.
N - Navigators: We lead someone through tough times so they travel down the right path to get them where they want to go in the way that is best for them to get there. We are the light that shows people there is a path to finding happiness and fulfillment in life. We inspire others to be better.
G - Growth: If you're not growing, you're dying. We are always learning because there is always room for improvement. We leave egos at the door because everything we do is not about us - it's about our clients and our futures. We look for ways to help others see the importance of growth in life and that no one is ever stuck where they are because of their past or current situation. Growth requires change, which requires courage, which can be scary. But to grow is a beautiful thing.
E - Empowerment: Empowerment is not something we do for someone; people can only empower themselves. But, we can give them the tools and support they need to find that empowerment. When someone feels empowered, they know they can accomplish even the toughest situations!
Why do we start with our values? Because if you read these and they do not resonate with you, than this job is definitely NOT for you. Please do not apply.
If you feel something, then keep reading because you might be exactly who we're looking for!
Family Law Attorney Description
As the lead attorney in any given case, you will be in charge of developing the strategy and path for the case to take considering the complexity of the issues, the client's budget, and the cooperation level of the other side. We have an entire team to bounce ideas off of and to support you throughout the process, but we believe that the attorney-client relationship is best when the client has a primary attorney on their case. We do a lot of high-conflict work, so you need to know how (or be willing to learn) how to negotiate these difficult types of cases as well as become a fierce litigator if the case requires you to get in front of the Judge. We like to say we represent the underdog because we believe we are usually on the "right" side of the table since we try to screen-out clients who are the manipulators.
We have hard offices in Hanover and Westborough, and we're looking to open another office in Middlesex County but all of our attorneys work virtually currently and only go to the office for meetings, depositions, etc. Being able to travel to court and be on time is a must.
Qualifications
At least 3-5 years of family law litigation experience
Experience in handling legal issues, motions, depositions and all other types of actions
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication and negotiation skills
