ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides direct and comprehensive legal services to eligible clients including advice, negotiation, motion practice, discovery and litigation.

Will appear in the city, town and village courts across our region in eviction and warranty of habitability cases.
Maintain accurate records and statistics for the coordination of timely reports.

Independently manage a caseload.
Manage data related to grant reporting process.

JOB SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides direct and comprehensive legal services to eligible clients including advice, negotiation, motion practice, discovery and litigation.
Offers holistic representation to clients with financial and other hardships that could result in loss of housing.
Will appear in the city, town and village courts across our region in eviction and warranty of habitability cases.
Maintain accurate records and statistics for the coordination of timely reports.
Effectively, efficiently and objectively will communicate/interview applicants/clients for services over the phone or in person.
Prepare and file pleadings, motions, briefs and other legal documents.
Independently manage a caseload.
Manage data related to grant reporting process.
Accurately and timely record billable time and case notes in our case management system.

JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Attorney provides representation in appeals matters for our Eviction Defense Program. Demonstrates an understanding and commitment to LASMNY's mission and value of justice. This position reports to the Deputy Director for Program Services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Draft motions to reargue and/or reconsider local court summary eviction and repair decisions when clear errors exist.
Appeal local court summary eviction and repair decisions to higher courts.
Negotiate stipulations relating to appellate issues such as briefing schedules and the content of appellate records.
Conduct legal research for tenant defense unit, assisting with ongoing litigation.
Provide motion assistance to tenant defense unit, including motions to dismiss and motions for discovery.
Train tenant defense unit on how to create a good record for appeal.
Co-counsel complex affirmative litigation cases with tenant defense attorneys.
Independently manage a caseload.
Maintain accurate records and statistics for the coordination of timely reports.
Manage data related to grant reporting process.
