The Legal Advisor will support Humana's Law Department's representation of Humana in Medicare administrative appeals. Responsibilities will include reviewing appeal case files to determine the level of clinical support needed for administrative law judge (ALJ) hearings, providing testimony at ALJ hearings, preparing clinical arguments and position summaries in connection with administrative appeals, and supporting the identification of trends and data monitoring impacting ALJ hearings. The Legal Advisor will also be expected to advise executives to develop functional strategies on matters of significance; exercise independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, work under minimal supervision, and uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.

+ Bachelor's degree

General Job Summary

Most of our clients are ordinary citizens who have suffered injustice and have chosen to fight back. We also work actively fighting to ensure that constitutional guarantees and statutes that secure the civil rights of citizens are not merely a "parchment barrier" against the oppression and tyranny of the majority. This includes efforts, among others, related to: Criminal justice, First Amendment, LGBT rights, voting rights, reproductive freedom and women's rights.
What you'll do:
The intern will assist the Policy Counsel in legislative and policy matters and/or the Legal Director during discovery and litigation, among other related tasks. Will be responsible for analyzing the constitutionality of pending legislation, creating and updating policy issue briefs and policy related legal memos, assisting in legislative reports, and researching as needed.

Education & Experience:
JD degree from an accredited law school is required.
Preferred to have prior legal experience handling a mass tort docket.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point).
