We are currently seeking highly qualified candidates for a Vocational Language Instructor to join our team in Paterson, Washington. This role is anticipated to be four (4) to five (5) months in duration. The position is on-site and in-person at our beautiful winery.
What you will do:
* Teach students how to interpret, read, write, and understand foreign (both Spanish and English) languages.
* Translate foreign (both Spanish and English) languages into the students' natural language to help them understand.

Language Studies Program
The Language Studies Program (LSP) contributes to the school mission of enabling its students to better understand the world and improve it through the instruction of language and culture in the context of international relations. As part of the school graduation requirements, MA students need to pass a language proficiency exam in one of the languages taught at SAIS. The LSP is responsible for the language proficiency assessment of these students. To fulfill its mission, the LSP works in conjunction with the Office of Academic Affairs, Admissions and Student Affairs.
The Language Studies Program at SAIS invites applications for our roster of part-time language professionals in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Indonesian, Japanese, Persian, Russian and Spanish.
The Language Studies Program seeks to recruit candidates for the following positions:
+ (a) Language Testers. The responsibilities of language testers will be to develop proficiency assessments in one of the above languages.
Proficiency assessment. Credentials as language tester and native speaker fluency required.
+ (b) Language Lecturers. Minimum of five years of experience as language lecturer at college level required, and an interest in content-based instruction in topics of International Relations desired.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
AIS is looking for instructors to join our Afterschool Heritage Language program in the following languages: Greek, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian or Swahili. The teacher will lead a class in that is composed of beginners and mixed ages (5 to 10 years old). The class group is small (3 to 8 students). Students have a cultural connection to the language but may not have language competency at the start of the course.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide opportunities for use of oral language skills.
- Develop cultural connections (literary, musical, customary, etc.).
- Engage students’ families in the program to establish a bridge between school and home identity.
- Use and develop student reading and writing skills in context.
- Engage students through STEAM-based (science, art, etc.) problem-solving activities once students have reached a level when they have developed basic communication skills.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- Native speaker of Greek, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian or Swahili (please specify which language in your application).
- Experience working with elementary school aged children.
- Background in teaching or language acquisition desirable.
- Passionate about connecting language with culture.
- Must be flexible, engaging, open-minded and comfortable leading an active group of students in an inquiry-based environment.
- The school will provide curriculum guidelines with the expectation that tutors will contribute to the development of the curriculum specific to language components.
