The Preservation Society of Newport County seeks part-time Groundskeepers to provide routine maintenance of all PS grounds, including lawns, gardens, trees, shrubs, walkways, and driving areas. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, 40 hrs./wk. from April 1 to December 31. Special events may require work on evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Watering lawn and shrubs, using hose or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler system. May be assigned to clean out drainage ditches and culverts, using shovel and rake. May perform ground maintenance duties, using tractor equipped with attachments, such as mowers, spreaders, lawn roller, and snow removal equipment. May sharpen tools, such as weed cutters, edging tools and shears using file or knife sharpener. May make minor repairs on equipment (as instructed), such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment, using hand tools and power tools. Shoveling snow from walks and driveways. The Landscape Technician has the responsibility to particpate in an efficient and comprehensive landscape maintenance program. An added duty of this role will be to cover for the landscape technicians in the case of scheduled or unscheduled absences. The incumbent will provide coordination and direction to a team of landscape technicians and external vendors and will assist in providing groundskeeping, building maintenance, along with maintaining equipment and tools. Primary responsibilities include Lead landscaping team in daily tasks. Assist as needed for scheduled/unscheduled absences. Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs. Assist Landscape Manager with coordination of deliveries. Train Landscape Technicians in equipment use, maintenance and daily tasks. Assist Landscape Manager in leading day-to-day groundskeeping operations of multiple retail banking and main office facilities. Assess work completed by colleagues and external vendors against safety and performance standards and work with the Landscape Manager and other stakeholders to handle necessary corrective actions. Perform groundskeeping and building maintenance duties as required. Assist in mowing lawns either by hand or using a riding lawnmower when needed to expedite work orders or cover for colleagues on PTO. Recommend specific plants, trees, grass, or other landscape features dependent on local site conditions and established Citizens standards. Landscape by planting, trimming, and maintaining flower beds, grass, shrubs, bushes, and small trees. Shovel snow from walkways and apply anti-skid as needed; Clean parking lots, sidewalks, and all exterior areas while performing routine groundskeeping. Perform spring and fall cleanups to remove excess debris, leaves, and trim landscaping. Install new hardscaping, river rock, fencing, signage, and other furnishings as required. Pressure wash building exterior and refresh parking lot painting as needed. Clean gutters and roof drains of debris. Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in groundskeeping. Ensure all tools, equipment, and vehicles are maintained and utilized in a safe manner consistent with established standards. Close out work orders upon completion via iPad or Computerized Maintenance Management System. Respond to emergency and non-emergency service requests and prioritize work order response. Communicate in a pleasant and professional manner with internal and external customers.
