CORE RESPONSIBILITIES , you will: Assist the Landscaping team in all aspects of landscaping operations, including but not limited to, mowing, trimming, blowing, seeding, fertilizing, pruning, planting, snow/ice removal and other general property maintenance. Perform general repair and basic maintenance on equipment and vehicles used for landscaping operations as scheduled or as needed. Perform and complete other work and duties that are assigned by the Landscaping Manager and/or Director of Campus Operations. This may include working additional hours, alternate work schedule or basic facilities assistance outside of landscaping. Work with and support outside companies and contractors for major work and service contract projects not to be handled internally. Maintain professional relationships with vendors and contractors to ensure their timely service and support. Provide input to the Landscaping Manager in the development and execution of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all campus landscaping operations. Make recommendations and suggestions to the Landscaping Manager to improve the safe, efficient, and effective operations of Cary Academy. Follow all federal, state, and OHSA regulations as well as Cary Academy policy pertaining to the operations of landscaping equipment, hand tools, and chemicals at all times. The Impact You Will Make The Cemetery Groundskeeper at Everstory is a dedicated, reliable and hard-working individual who understands the importance of detail and providing the highest level of service to our customers. This important role is responsible for the care, maintenance, and repairs of the property as well as the safety and security of the employees and visitors of the location. In this position, you will also be responsible for: Performing all landscape maintenance duties such as weed-whacking, lawn mowing, etc. Maintaining equipment. All functions related to funeral services. Operating machinery appropriately in a safe manner. Installing or assisting in installing cemetery vaults. Installing headstones or memorials as needed. Handling the day-to-day general maintenance duties. Handling snow removal (if applicable). Performing other duties as assigned by the Grounds Superintendent. Requirements High School equivalency required. 2+ years experience in maintenance or related field. Ability to operate maintenance equipment and machinery. Ability to read and execute memos and directives from supervisor and/or management. Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with interruptions. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to lift up to 80lbs. Must possess a valid state driver's license. Responsible for performing tasks that preserve, maintain and enhance the campus grounds. Performs essential duties related to facilities work as identified by management during inclement weather, emergency situations, or as campus needs dictate. Duties: * Removes snow from sidewalks, courtyards, parking lots, etc. using shovels and snow plows. * Cleans sidewalks, entrances, courtyards and private roads using brooms and power sweepers. Collects litter, trash and recyclables. * Assists in chemical cleaning and/or sandblasting of sidewalks or building surfaces to remove stains and graffiti, when required. * Weeds, prunes, trims and generally maintains the gardens, shrubs, lawns and trees on the grounds of the facilities. * Assists in repairs of sidewalks, fences, signs, parking lots and private streets. * Repairs and maintains equipment during off-seasons and during inclement weather, as required. * Duties may include inclement weather safety responsibilities, including the removal of snow, ice and/or branches, and other related responsibilities as necessary due to inclement weather. * Duties may include activities related to preparation or clean-up during emergency situations. * May be required to work during campus closures. * Performs other related duties as necessary or as assigned by supervision or management. Qualifications: Skills Needed: * Must have knowledge of groundskeeping equipment and proper horticultural techniques. * Must be able to work primarily outdoors. * Must be able to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with supervisor, coworkers, customers and others. Key Interfaces: * May work in tandem with other Grounds Staff, must be able to work as a team and individually. Education, Experience, Certifications, etc.: * A high school education is preferred. * Other coursework and/or training in proper horticultural techniques or groundskeeping experience is preferred. * Valid NC Driver License preferred. Working conditions & physical demands: * Works in moderate noise outdoors, and drives around campus in maintenance golf carts and other vehicles. * Frequent standing and operating machinery. Frequent bending and lifting. Frequent walking. * Often lifts up to 100 lbs. * May be required to work during periods of inclement weather.
