Skookum is seeking a Laborer with a positive attitude and can-do.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
General Grounds Maintenance tasks: litter control, weed eating, mowing, and snow removal.
Janitorial tasks: sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming of offices and employee break room.
Pressure wash maintenance bays, vehicles, equipment, parking areas and exterior of facilities.
Operate GSA vehicles when needed for marshalling.
Cleaning exterior and interior of all GSA vehicles assigned to the Ft Meade transportation motor-pool.
Assist Safety Officer with monthly Fire Extinguisher inspection.
Assist with inventory control of Government furnished and Skookum owned equipment.
Assist mechanics with parts chasing, vehicle and equipment parking, cleaning shop tools and equipment, gathering POL products and disposal of POL waste.
Qualifications:
Must have practical knowledge and skill in janitorial and grounds maintenance.
Must have experience in cleaning a vehicle shop and performing hazmat duties.
Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
Must possess excellent customer service skills.
Ability to work in a variety of different environments, including inclement weather and high places.
Must have the ability and be willing to work outside of normal working hours such as back shift and weekends, in the event of unplanned outages.
Requirements:
Valid Driver's license required. CDL A or B preferred. Must be able to obtain and maintain approval to operate a vehicle by Skookum's insurance carrier.

An Overview
A Labor I- Seasonal performs general, unskilled, manual work of a routine nature tasks for Parks and Recreation Department. The duties outlined will require physical vigor and the ability to follow given specific work instructions. The Laborer I will be under constant supervision and will often assist Laborers II and III and Equipment Operators I in their various tasks. Many of these tasks will be time sensitive. Assignments are outlined in detail by a supervisor, standard procedures are followed, and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation.
What You Should Bring
Physical and Environmental Conditions: Duties are generally performed citywide in both outdoor and indoor settings. This is medium to heavy work requiring the exertion of fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, up to twenty (20) pounds of force frequently, and up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move, lift and push objects. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. This position is subject to outside environmental conditions, including extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of the practices, methods, and materials used in cranes, trucks, passenger vehicles, and ground maintenance. Ability to operate machinery including construction vehicles. Ability to climb heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; willingness to perform routine and heavy manual work for an extended period under difficult weather conditions; ability to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 70 pounds; good physical condition. Ability to perform set-up and clean-up tasks at job sites; direct traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists, and work crew; provide labor support as needed for crane crews and/or mechanics; and observe rigging operations and help when necessary. Ability to perform general maintenance and cleaning of construction equipment and vehicles. Should be willing to be mentored by veteran employees to build skills and possibly move to growth positions. Must be highly motivated and able to prioritize multiple tasks and to meet deadlines. Education, Training, and Experience
Completion of ninth grade required. High school diploma or GED preferred. Possession of a valid Maryland Class C driver's license or equivalent and ability to acquire a Class B driver's license. Experience in the general maintenance of grounds and equipment with experience in industry experience preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform in the position may be considered.

Position Description:
Laborers have general responsibility to provide support and assistance to the other skilled crafts working on the project. Laborers provide support for the form carpenters and for the concrete operation in general, ironworkers/rodbusters involved in installing reinforcing steel, and masons involved in the installation of block and brickwork. This is a safety sensitive position.
Essential Duties:
· Preparation of areas for the placement of concrete involves final excavation of dirt and rock and fine grading for floor slabs. This work involves shoveling for extended periods of time.
· Assembly of concrete forms, laborers are required to lift form prefabricated metal form panels and assist in their placement.
· Handle the concrete bucket suspended from a crane that transfers the concrete from the concrete truck to the placement area. After the concrete is poured from the bucket, laborers muck the concrete in slabs to spread it evenly.
· After the concrete has cured, the laborers assist in stripping the concrete forms and transporting them for storage.
· Assist concrete finishers in moving power trowels and power screeds used to finish the concrete surface.
· Support of block masons installing masonry work by handling and transporting bags of cement, lime, sand, and grout. This includes stocking blocks and bricks.
· Assist carpenters in handling and setting door frames. This entails transporting the door frames from the storage area to the work areas and stacking the door frames where needed.
· Loads, unloads, and identifies building materials, machinery, and tools. Distributes site materials to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications. Responsible for ensuring that all materials are properly distributed, and the site is swept and well maintained.
· Promotes a safe work environment and communicates jobsite hazards. This includes helping to secure the jobsite at the end of business each day and verifying that all site materials are properly stored.
Position Qualifications:
