While reporting to the Plant Engineering Supervisor, the Industrial Electrician installs, troubleshoots, and maintains production equipment and facility electrical equipment. What you'll be doing: Install all electrical segments in such equipment as gas mixers, burners, de-ionized water units, air compressors, plant air circulation systems, cooling and heating units, ultra sonic cleaners, waxers, and plant lighting. Troubleshoot, adjust and repairs all electrical equipment, solid state circuits, circuit boards, components, logic boards, transducers, amplifiers, and complex timing and inspection devices. Perform preventative maintenance on assigned electrical systems and equipment. Identify inefficiencies and potential electrical problems and coordinate through supervisor to resolve. Program logic controls (PLC) for proper equipment operation. May assist in the design, experimentation, and/or installation of all new plant equipment or electrical production procedures. Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department, the division, the group, and the company. Includes ability to handle stress and to interact with others so as to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimize personal conflicts. Ability to communicate effectively, write effectively, read, comprehend, and follow complicated verbal and written instructions. Assure and maintain safe and healthful working conditions while enforcing safety rules and regulations. You have knowledge of hazardous material handling, working in confined spaces and other safety practices, and basic knowledge of national electrical code (NEC). PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Installs and maintains new EPAC controllers, load switches, conflict monitors, and copper cable and/or fiber-optic communications systems, traffic signal terminal facilities, and cabinets. Replaces malfunctioning controllers and conflict monitors. Locates short and open circuit conditions in wiring systems. Replaces worn and/or damaged components in traffic control devices and electrical streetlight fixtures. Prepares reports on maintenance performed; updates to signal timing plans. * Installs and maintains electrical motors, signal heads, signal cables, span wire, and traffic signal poles and pedestals. * Performs electronics repair work on a wide variety of electronic equipment. Inspects defective electronic equipment to determine malfunctions. Reads and interprets schematic diagrams, logic charts, and manufacturer's manuals to isolate malfunctioning components. Work is subject to periodic review while in progress and upon completion. * Responsibilities include being on call 24 hours per day on a rotational weekly basis. Performs all related work as required. * Possess and maintain a valid CDL class "B" driver's license with an active medical examiner's certificate, a good driving record, and ability to pass drug screening as mandated by the Federal Department of Transportation for CDL drivers. * Will attend annual training to advance knowledge and exposure to the traffic signal environment as training opportunities are made available. * Assist other Transportation Division crews with the installation, removal and replacement of traffic controls signage as needed. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS * Graduation from high school or GED equivalency supplemented by courses or experience in mechanical and electrical/electronic maintenance in the traffic and transportation field, or related electrical field preferred. * Knowledge of the methods, procedures, materials, and tools related to the maintenance and installation of electrically operated traffic control devices, and basic electricity as it relates to traffic control devices, pedestrian signals and street lighting. * Knowledge of the principles and theories of electronics as related to the repair of digital electronic traffic control devices. Knowledge of test equipment and testing procedures used in the calibration and repair of digital and analog electronic equipment. * Ability to read and interpret schematics, logic, and flow-charts, along with technical manuals. Ability to apply diagnostic principles in the repair of electrical equipment. Ability to interpret technical diagrams and blueprints. * Ability or willingness to operate an aerial bucket truck and work at heights up to 35 feet. RESPONSIBILITIES * Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints insuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring. * Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit using such tools as a hacksaw, pipe threader, rules and conduit benders. * Pulls wiring through conduit, assisted by helper. * Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps. * Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools. * Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays and circuit- breaker panels, and fastens in place with crews or bolts using hand or power tools. * Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads. * Test continuity of circuit to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer and oscilloscope. * Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. * Disassembles and repairs defective electrical equipment or systems. * Load, transport and unload material, tools, equipment and supplies. * Maintains tools and equipment. * Be able to distinguish colors. * Knowledge of certain procedures such as LOTO, etc. * Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
