Custodian REPORTS TO: Facility Manager SUMMARY: The Custodian is responsible for the completion of assigned tasks following the end of the school day and for preparing the building for the next scheduled school day. Established in 1980, the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, Inc. The Custodian participates as a team member of the Facilities Security Service Department in providing the best sanitary conditions for the proper functioning of a healthcare environment. Notifies supervisor of cleanliness problems or area in need of extra attention. Participates in OSHA and other safety training and yearly updates given by the Health Center and/or outside organizations. Notifies supervisor of need for supplies. Train/orientate new staff on proper cleaning procedures. Participates in the repair and maintenance of equipment and facilities on an as needed basis. Watches for and informs supervisor of maintenance needs. Performs minor repair and maintenance to equipment and facilities. Assists in seasonal work as, but not limited to, window cleaning, snow removal and grounds maintenance. Participates as a Facilities Department Team Member to carry out Facility Mission Statement. Meets on a regular basis with supervisor or Department Director for training, counseling and coaching. Become knowledgeable about the GLFHC Improvement plan and the model for improvement endorsed by the organization. On a regular basis participate in ongoing quality improvement activities related to individual, team, and organizational performance improvement. Assist Custodian 3 with floor striping and waxing. Assist with Custodian 3 on any major cleaning projects Performs all and any additional duties as assigned. Requirements Qualifications: High school diploma/GED Two to four years of facility cleaning experience, preferably in a Health Care setting. Incumbents of positions in this series keep buildings in clean and orderly condition; maintain the appearance and cleanliness of floors; wash interior surfaces of buildings such as walls, ceilings, windows, etc.; maintain grounds around buildings; empty waste receptacles; move furniture; and perform related work as required. The basic purpose of this work is to provide cleaning/maintenance services to ensure that assigned premises are properly cleaned and maintained. Keeps buildings in clean and orderly condition by performing a combination of activities, including cleaning assigned areas and making minor repairs to buildings using hand tools and equipment. Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of floors by sweeping and mopping and by utilizing building custodial equipment such as polishers, buffers, vacuum cleaners and carpet shampooers. Washes interior surfaces of buildings such as walls, ceilings, windows, etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment. Empties waste receptacles and disposes of waste. Dusts and polishes furniture. Based on assignment, you may be responsible for the following: Operate freight elevators to pick up and deliver clothing, laundry, equipment, etc. Maintain grounds around buildings by cutting grass, raking leaves, weeding and thinning flower beds or gardens, etc. Perform outside duties such as washing windows; sweeping walks; shoveling snow; picking up trash; preparing grounds by putting in gravel, dumping and smoothing hot top, etc. Perform related duties such as loading or unloading equipment and supplies from vehicles; moving furniture; setting up furniture such as beds, desks and cabinets. Provide on-the-job training and orientation to employees. Inspect assigned areas for cleanliness, adherence to safety standards Maintain records or logs on assigned unit activities. Operate an electrically-powered combination scrubber and vacuum floor machine. 1 year of experience required in related work.
