Waukesha County is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) interns. These positions offer a unique opportunity to work in conservation and environmental education while gaining hands-on experience in AIS management.
We are seeking one full-time intern and several part-time interns from May - September of 2025.
The part-time interns will be assigned to a specific lake where they will conduct watercraft inspections at public landings through the Clean Boats Clean Waters (CBCW) program. Work schedule consists of 16-24 hours per week (Fridays-Sundays) throughout the summer.
The full-time intern (40 hours per week) will assist the County AIS Coordinator with training, outreach, lake surveys, and AIS removal efforts, which will include time spent on various types of watercraft or in the water.
Conduct boat inspections at public landings on multiple lakes throughout the County during weekends.
Emphasis on increasing AIS awareness and education to boaters, anglers, classrooms, and the general public for all positions.
Training will be provided by the County AIS Coordinator, however daily work direction may be provided by a cooperating lake group.
Interested candidates must have the ability to work early mornings, evenings, most weekends, boating events, and holidays including Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, to match peak use of the public boat landings.

Reports to: General Aquarium Curator and Aquarists

JOB SUMMARY
An internship in the Reiman Aquarium Aquatics Department is a semester long, hands on, career-based learning experience. Interns will assist the Aquarium Staff in all aspects of the daily care of all exhibit and quarantine animals housed at the Reiman Aquarium.
This will include water quality testing, food preparation and animal feeding, LSS equipment maintenance, among other husbandry tasks. We prefer, but do not require, our internship applicants to be Open Water SCUBA certified prior to the start of their Internship program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned as needed.
Prepare animal diets
Feed Aquarium animals
Monitor and test water quality on Aquarium systems
Observe animals for disease and injury

Make and store saltwater
Help maintain Aquarists' daily husbandry logs and task lists
With assistance from an Aquarist, oversee the daily care of 1-2 Aquarium Exhibits, drafting and completing an SOP for each system
