We are currently seeking a Behavioral Health Clinical Counselor to see patients at our Floodwood, MN clinic with the potential to rotate to our Cook and/or Eveleth clinics. This position will work closely with our mental health and primary care providers and together create a true healthcare home. Onsite therapy and tele-health therapy will be provided to patients. Qualified candidates who are a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) are preferred. A Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) will be considered.
Working with patients of all ages, the Behavioral Health Clinical Counselor will assist patients with management of substance abuse, mental health issues, as well as assisting with social service needs. The position includes but is not limited to counseling services. The provider is encouraged to collaborate with primary care providers who are on-site as well as local health and human services, community resources, referral resources and assistance programs.

DUTIES:

* Teach skills related to coping, relapse prevention, and basic household and living skills.
* Complete functional assessments, treatment plans, and daily progress notes in conjunction with supervisor.
* Maintain appropriate boundaries in a variety of settings and situations.
* Work cooperatively with other service providers, have a strong understanding of program eligibility requirements, and be informed on referral processes for community supports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma or equivalent and meet one of the following:
o Three years of personal life experience with mental illness, or
o Three years of life experience as a caregiver to an adult with mental illness, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder, or developmental disability, or
o 2,000 hours of work experience providing health and human services to individuals, or
o Associates of Arts Degree, or
o 15 Semester Hours or 23 Quarter Hours of Post Secondary Education in Behavioral Sciences or Related Fields

Routine correctional work supervising residents detained at the Arrowhead Juvenile Center (AJC), which is a facility licensed by the Department of Corrections. The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $24.24 - $36.51 per hour.

Distinguishing Features of Work
An employee in this class provides correctional services for minors detained at AJC. Employees in this class are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the facility, juveniles and staff and counseling residents by modeling and teaching social skills, problem solving skills, and conflict resolution. Duties include providing direct care and supervising residents in a 24-hour 7 day a week (including holidays) facility; performing security checks and managing crises and conflicts as they occur; documentation of daily activities; medication delivery; providing transportation; and assisting residents develop life skills. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.
Work Environment
These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANT: Balance; coordination; smell; stand; walk; hearing; vision; work with others; clients with behavioral challenges; and shift work. Selection Process
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):
High school diploma or its equivalent.
Twenty-one (21) years of age or older OR between eighteen (18) years of age and twenty-one (21) years of age AND enrolled or completed course work in a postsecondary education program to pursue a degree in a behavioral science, according to Minnesota Statute 2960.0240.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
One (1) year full-time paid verifiable experience in a correctional facility, group home, behavioral health program, hospital security, treatment program, shelter, or a related field.

Holds a master's degree or higher in the behavioral sciences or related fields;
OR
holds a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences or related fields and completes a practicum or internship that (1) requires direct interaction with adults or children served, and (2) is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields.
Experience-Only Qualifications
Has at least 4,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with mental illness, substance use disorder, or emotional disturbance; or traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects.
AND
Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to adults or children as described above, and receives clinical supervision as required by applicable statutes and rules at least once a week from a mental health professional until the requirement of 4,000 hours of supervised experience is met.
Graduate Internship Placement:
Is a graduate student in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields and is formally assigned by an accredited college or university to an agency or facility for clinical training.

Job Description
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Mental Health Specialist II (MHS2) work in our Acute Behavioral Services (ABS) programs. These are highly specialized programs in which we serve individuals with intensive, interfering behavioral and mental health needs. The persons receiving these services have many of the following characteristics: previously placed in a highly restricted facility, high incidence of crisis situations, high behaviors or anti-social issues, multiple hospitalizations/commitments/ institutional stays, history of law enforcement involvement due to behaviors, and multiple failed placements. These group homes have been significantly modified to eliminate safety concerns. Consistency and routine are key factors in the proven success of these programs. Because of the complex/high level behaviors, MHS2's are provided training for manual restraints and will experience mental, emotional, and physical manipulation from the person we support. Staff may be exposed to severe verbal aggression that may include disparaging remarks, racial slurs and swearing. ABS programs utilize a person-centered approach to creating a program that focuses on supporting a person to reach their goals while still considering the safety of the individual, staff, and the community.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The MHS II is responsible to provide direct care and direct supports to each person served according to his/ her needs. This includes intense interfering behavioral health management, assisting in maintaining a clean, safe living environment, assisting and training on daily living skills, transportation and support while promoting a person-centered approach. These are care giver positions with an emphasis on mental health and behavior management support. Past experience in direct support professional roles as well as behavior technician would be similar in responsibilities.

Create and monitor individualized treatment plans, provide group therapy and individual counseling services to individuals with co-occurring chemical use and mental health problems.
Facilitate groups regarding the disease of addiction and the recovery process consistent with maintaining good mental health.
Responsible for complying with federal and state statutes, upholding ethical standards established and implied by the profession, DHS rules, and be limited in authority to that set by the Treatment Director.
Participate in weekly treatment team meetings to review and update client progress notes.
Initiate and maintain ongoing communication with client referrals, probation, and social service agencies, etc
Required Skills & Experience (Minimum Qualifications):
Current alcohol and drug counseling license in the state of Minnesota.
Bachelor's degree required.
Complete continuing education courses in current treatment concepts and methods as required by the state of Minnesota to maintain alcohol and drug counselor license.
Must be 21 years of age or older.

What We're Looking For:

SUMMARY:

DUTIES:

* Provide crisis assistance as needed.

The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $24.24 - $36.51 per hour.

Purpose: Counsel clients and help meet their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Responsible to ensure and/or deliver and properly document the provision of treatment services including the Initial Service Plan, Comprehensive Assessment, Individual Treatment Plan, Progress Notes, Summary at Termination of Services, and the maintenance of client records in accordance with Minnesota Rule 9530 and MnTC policy.
Treatment Services
Upon service initiation, ensure that each client has an initial service plan which addresses the client's immediate health, safety, and preliminary service needs.
Complete a comprehensive assessment and an assessment summary of the client's chemical use problems within three calendar days after service initiation. The assessment summary must be formatted utilizing the ASAM criteria.
Provide an Individual Treatment Plan after completion of the comprehensive assessment which is subject to amendment until services to the client are terminated. The individual treatment plan must include treatment goals, specific methods to be used to address identified problems, resources to which the client is being referred, and client goals.
Enter progress notes in each client's file weekly or after each treatment service. The progress notes must reference the individual treatment plan.
Complete a discharge summary within five days of the client's termination of services.
Ensure the content and format of client records be uniform and entries in each case are signed and dated.
Provide individual and group counseling, client education strategies to avoid inappropriate chemical use and health problems related to chemical use, transition services, and services to address issues related to co-occurring mental illness.
Lead client education lecture classes as required.
Participate in the weekly treatment team meetings to review and update client progress notes.
Initiate and maintain ongoing communication with client referral, probation, social service agencies, etc.
Continuing Education and Training:
Stay current regarding professional research, techniques, etc.
Complete continuing education courses in current treatment concepts and methods as required by the State of Minnesota to maintain Alcohol and Drug Counselor license.
Attend in-house training and staff meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be free of chemical use problems for at least the two years immediately preceding hire.
Must have or obtain 12 hours of training in co-occurring mental health problems training within six months of hire.
Ability to provide individual and group counseling including crisis intervention.
Must be CD licensed or exempt from CD licensure under Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 148C. (LADC or ADC-T)
Must document competence in screening for and working with clients with mental health problems, through education, training, and experience.
Knowledge and understanding of implications of parts 9530.6405 to 9530.6505, 9543.1000 to 9543.1060, and Minnesota Statutes, chapter 245A, and sections 626.556, 626.557, and 626.5572.
Ability to successfully complete MN Dept of Human Services background study.
