The need to perfect these skills within the confines of a virtual world has become even more challenging and amplified with COVID. I teach in the information systems discipline, and when you view student resumes, many people look the same on paper. The soft skills will make a candidate stand out head and shoulders above the rest. That's why the candidate should pay attention to the screening interviews that they will undergo during the hiring process since employers will use these interviews to vet these skills.

I was always pretty good with numbers, so Accounting seemed to be a appropriate career path for me. I worked as a General Accountant, Cost Accountant and Chief Accounting Manager from the 1980's thru early 1990. I also went to night school at University of Delaware to obtain my MS in Accounting. As my company began to think about changing it's accounting systems for Y2K, I joined the implementation team as SME (subject matter expert) for accounting. We worked very closely with Consultants to implement SAP. At this time, I decided to get my MBA in Information Systems from Drexel University. As we began to go live in a streamlined approach across the world in 12-13 sites, we started to ween away from the Consultants and take the post go live responsibilities "in house". I became the lead Finance team Manager and 2 other colleagues took the Sales/Distribution and Manufacturing streams. I went on the a few other company's in various titles leading SAP Finance teams with support and projects over the last 15 years. I retired in 2022 from my full time activity and was able to find a role for a part-time remote position with Sapworks, Inc. I currently work anywhere from 30-50 hours per month with a few clients supporting SAP projects.
