Senior Environmental Specialist (Scientist/Geologist/Engineer)
Our Senior Environmental Specialist (Scientist/Geologist/Engineer) is mid to senior level position with experience in directing environmental field work and the technical evaluation of results to develop strategies for assessment and remediation in accordance with applicable regulatory guidelines. This position is located within our Dublin, Ohio office. The position must have 8-15 years of professional experience with the following environmental activities:
Primary Responsibilities:
Work in a team environment in and out of the office.
Manage large projects / tasks related to environmental due diligence, site assessment and remediation; including tasks to be completed by others and prepare written work assignments to describe work to be completed by others including scope, schedule, personnel management, time descriptions and budget
Evaluate brownfields and other contaminated sites and prepare technical reports including site assessments, remediation approaches, feasibility studies, remedial action work plans, and remediation design plans.
Develop an understanding of the contractual requirements and support preparation of proposals for new projects and/or change orders for existing projects.
Excel at the administrative responsibilities of this position, including timely submittal of electronic copies of receipts and time records and tracking and recording rental equipment. Time records, receipts and rental equipment summaries are due no later than each Monday at noon
Provide personnel training support including mentoring junior WCG employees in safe soil and groundwater monitoring and sampling procedures, assessment data management and analysis, remediation system operation and maintenance and remediation data management and analysis
Actively participate in professional societies, conferences, and meetings that will increase the visibility of WCG and its affiliated companies to potential clients and recruits.
Review, practice and implement safe work practices; including reviewing the Health and Safety Plan for each project prior to arriving at a site, ensuring required personal protective equipment (PPE) is available, participate and/or conduct daily safety tail-gate meetings and implement safe-defensive driving to and from project sites.
Qualifications:
BS/MS in Environmental, Engineering, or Geological Science with at least 8 to 15 years of experience
PG/PE preferred but not required
Experience preparing technical reports for a variety of regulatory entities and programs, including Federal USEPA CERCLA and RCRA Corrective Action Programs and state-specific enforcement and voluntary programs. Experience with NJDEP a plus.
Strong technical writing skills
Strong Microsoft Office Word and Excel skills
Strong understanding of health and safety protocols
Willing to work outside, in a variety of climates, and be able to traverse tough terrain at times and carry loads
Willing to work at active industrial properties

How will you do it?

Prepare technical evaluations of investigated sites using RCRA guidelines.

APTIM is seeking a junior Environmental Scientist, but will consider an entry level candidate, near Columbia, SC. To be hired on a full-time basis, in primary support of our stormwater compliance program. There will also be opportunities to participate in a variety of other environmental compliance support tasks, including but not limited to, solid waste, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, aboveground storage tanks, spill prevention, DOT and RCRA compliance, site assessment and remediation, and/or environmental data management. The successful candidate will be experienced in supporting an environmental team. This position will require travel to client facilities to conduct stormwater inspection/sampling activities, environmental compliance reviews and/or gather related data.
**Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:**
+ Collecting environmental samples in the field and preparing and preserving samples for delivery to an analytical laboratory.
+ Calibrating and using technical instruments.
+ Gain familiarity with site specific requirements through review of permit and planning documents, including the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) or State-Specific General Permit, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan, and any other applicable plans that have been prepared for the site.

Responsibilities:
Assist with the environmental and safety operations
Assist with the compliance, reporting & record keeping
Research environmental sustainability issues or concerns
Enforcement of Sustainability & Environmental Policy, Procedures, Plans, Programs
Monitor, report, and evaluate effectiveness of sustainability program implementations.
Internal and external compliance audits
Conduct Corrective Actions and Preventive Actions resulting from non-conformances
Update Vendor Audits
Qualifications:
Previous experience with sustainability is required
Previous experience in the Manufacturing Industry is required
Knowledge of environmental science and greenhouse gas offset (CO2e) measurement methods and theories.
Previous experience with EPA, OSHA, and DOT
Hazard recognition
Computer skills

What can you expect?
As the Environmental Scientist II, you will work onsite in Grand Junction, CO by utilizing your knowledge to participate in collecting, synthesizing and documenting data from investigated areas and assisting in the preparation of project documentation, in addition to providing field support as needed including field site supervision. Field work is typically seven days a week for ten hours a day. If not in the field, you will work out of the designated office. Your personal initiative and critical thinking skills are essential to complete job duties with minimal guidance. Assignments are deadline driven so you must be able to set priorities, take ownership of projects, work efficiently and provide a consistent level of high quality in a high-pressure environment. You will be required to do field rotations for several weeks to remote job locations.
How will you do it?
* Conduct and oversee site inspections, assessments, investigations, and cleanups in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff.
* Work with environmental technicians and other technical staff in data collection, site inspection/investigation, and evaluation of data collected in support of environmental project objectives.
* Prepare technical evaluations of investigated sites using RCRA guidelines.
* Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
* Review and document the processes necessary to obtain, develop and/or update environmental permits, plans, reports, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental compliance and restoration project objectives.
* Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.
* Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
* Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.
* Actively participate in creating a positive team environment
* Support project planning and RFP responses
* Solve challenges for Clients
* Manage company resources to ensure proper deliverables
* Support junior Environmental Scientist staff
* Actively participate in a proactive safety culture
* Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
* Knowledge of the practical application of environmental engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various environmental services.
* Knowledge and understanding of RCRA, NPDES, CWA, OPPA, CAA, and other applicable laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental projects and programs.
* Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
* Ability to use analytical skills alongside scientific rules and methods to solve problems and apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
* Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
* Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
* Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and confidentially process and maintain data with accuracy with directions and mentorship

Who is Brice Solutions looking for?
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Physical or Environmental Science required.
* Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience working on environmental projects, or five (5) to ten (10) years working in an environmental analytical laboratory.
* Must meet ADEC's definition of a Qualified Professional.
* Familiar with 18 AAC 75 (ADEC Oil and Hazardous Substances and Pollution Control Regulations), 18 AAC 78 (ADEC UST Regulations) and the ADEC Draft Field Sampling Guidance Manual.
* A broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
* Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Brice Solutions driving policy.
* Ability to pass drug and background screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response training with current 8-hour refresher preferred.
* Experience in federal government projects highly desired.
* Experience with Health and Safety functions a plus.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Brice Solutions has a fast-paced multi-tasking environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. This position will be expected to do field work at outdoor job sites between 50%-90% of the time.
