QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: • Behavior management and techniques used with special needs populations. • Intensive Behavior Intervention techniques. • Child guidance principles and practices, especially as they relate to students with learning disabilities, developmental delays and autistic behavior. • Basic subjects taught in District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading. • Appropriate developmental skills. • Safe practices in classroom and playground activities. • Basic instructional methods and techniques. • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. • Appropriate interpersonal relations using tact, patience and courtesy. • Basic record-keeping skills. • Health regulations and safe working methods and procedures. • Proper lifting techniques. • District policies, rules and regulations. Education/Training/Required Certification: • High school graduate or equivalent. • An associate's degree or higher. • Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education. • Two years experience working with children in an organized setting. • One year experience observing and collecting student behavioral charting data preferred. • Training in implementing Intensive Behavior Intervention desirable. Under the supervision of the Principal and direction from a Speech & Language Pathologist, assists a Speech & Language Pathologist in providing educationally related direct speech therapy services to identified students with speech and language disorders as well as physical, emotional, and learning disabilities according to the students' Individualized Education Programs (IEP); prepares instructional and testing material for speech therapy sessions and intervention services; assists with data collection and documentation of student therapy progress; assists students with the use of assistive technology devices for communication; performs a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for the Speech & Language Pathologist. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree in speech & language pathology or communicative disorders OR hold an associate's degree in speech & language pathology assistant from a Board approved SLPA program and one year experience working with children in an educational or organized learning environment. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - Valid California Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) license.
