The individual will support the Bennartz lab in developing algorithms to investigate ice clouds in support of NASA's Polarized Submillimeter Ice Cloud Radiometer Mission (PolSIR). They are further expected to contribute to and write grant applications as well as peer reviewed publications.
The Earth and Environmental Sciences are aimed at understanding Earth's dynamic history - how Earth "works" and records its origin and age in rocks and landscapes - and how geological processes affect modern environmental and ecological systems. Among the natural sciences, ours is the quintessential interdisciplinary science, providing vital perspective on how Earth's physical and geochemical templates simultaneously sustain and threaten life, and influence human interactions with Earth.

About the Role
As a Senior Staff Data Scientist, Machine Learning or Staff Data Scientist, Machine Learning you will be a core member of a team of data scientists and engineers building a powerful computational platform for advancing the research and development of new medicines. As part of the Translational Platform Engineering team, you will help design, develop, and apply machine learning (ML) models, methods, and pipelines for scientific problems involving clinical and biomedical data. This position is focused on diabetes technology including software applications, insulin pumps, continuous glucose meters, and Smart Pens. Your focus will be on the integration of new technologies into our current platforms through the use of traditional med-device HFE practices. Specifically, this position will be responsible for administering usability testing, completion of risk analysis for use-related issues, and other human factors program activities that support documentation for the design history file.
+ Lead Human Factors projects supporting business portfolio,
+ Moderating usability testing of prototypes with end users and customers,

**Must have: Minimum qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
+ Or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

+ Experience planning, conducting, and documenting usability testing in a medical device use context; ability to generate design guidance that addresses usability test findings preferred
+ Experience planning, scaling, documenting, and executing human factors program activities in accordance with FDA guidance and other relevant international standards (e.g., IEC 62366, IEC 60601, ISO 14971)

The Associate Academic Research Scientist performs a wide range of highly technical and complex research duties and has documented scientific achievements and increasing technical, management, leadership, and professional expertise necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs.
The successful candidate will play a key role in experimental design, data collection and analysis. He/she will collaboratively work with a multi-disciplinary team of neuroscientists and medicinal chemists to acquire biochemical and histology data from in vitro and in vivo animal models.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrated knowledge of research and experimental platforms for analyzing, design and interpreting results Investigates and recommends potential alternative approaches to improve the quality of results of basic and/or translational research.

UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW's IT infrastructure, resources, and services. The Research Computing (RC) division within UW-IT designs, implements, and operates Linux based High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, high performance parallel file systems storage, as well as provides research computing consultation and support to campus customers.
This position focuses on supporting HPC/AI efforts for the research computing group, while providing expertise and support to other endeavors when needed. This position requires a team-oriented professional with the ability to communicate with researchers across multiple disciplines. This position regularly interfaces with other UW-IT teams as well as research customers across campus.
Knowledge of computational research practices, the ability to work and communicate with academic researchers, an optimistic "can do" disposition, collaborative growth mindset, and a customer-centric perspective are all key for success in this role.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree informatics, Research, Statistics, Engineering or related field or experience
Four years scientific background or research experience, or experience directly supporting computational research.
Experience utilizing and scripting for Linux HPC clusters including software installation.

Knowledge of computational reproducibility best practices (i.e., git, containers).
Demonstrated written/oral communication, technical documentation, user liaising, and personal interaction abilities.

A Bit About You
Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience developing machine learning models with business impact, and shipping ML/AI solutions to production.
