Summary of Job Purpose and Function The Pet Care Assistant works with the veterinary medical team to provide and prepare for the best medical care of pets, and to ensure this is provided in a happy, welcoming, friendly and efficient manner, influencing clients to return and refer their friends and families. Description - External Essential Responsibilities and Tasks · Prepare the treatment room for examination of pets and all necessary medical item and supplies (e.g. vaccinations, fecal loops, slides, etc.) for the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician. Set up fecals, smears, and skin scrapings as allowed by state rules and regulations. · Maintain the flow of the Cycle of Service in accordance to position. Provide Client Education regarding preventive care, Optimum Wellness Plans, and basic status of hospitalized pets. Serve as support to the Client Services Coordinator staff on an as-needed basis. · Hold or restrain pets during examination, treatment, or inoculation. · Prepare routine in-house laboratory tests (e.g. canine heartworm, feline leukemia, FIV, and canine parvovirus) as allowed by state rules and regulations. · Monitor the comfort of hospitalized patients. Ensure the comfort of hospitalized patients by "walking", exercising, feeding, and cleaning cages and pet (when approved by the veterinarian or veterinary technician). · Bathe and dip pets when necessary to treat dermatological conditions (when advised by veterinarian or veterinary technician. · Clean the surgical suite and instruments. · Ensure cleanliness of the hospital including but not limited to housekeeping such as laundry, dishes, mopping, cage cleaning, trash collection and removal and instrument cleaning as outlined by hospital protocols · Other job duties as assigned. Job Duties * Provides excellent customer service and possesses a service philosophy which reflects the mission for the Parks and Recreation Department. * Greets customers as they enter the facility/location and ensures they are properly registered prior to use. * Opens and/or closes Parks & Recreation facilities/locations, both indoor and outdoor. * Maintains a professional appearance according to department policies, including the proper attire and footwear. * Notifies, instructs, and corrects customer behavior that is inconsistent with safety procedures. * Assists with set-up/tear down of events or activities (chairs, tables, bleachers, and other equipment). * Assists in ensuring a clean, organized, and safe facility/location, which includes light janitorial/cleaning tasks as directed by supervisors. * Moves throughout facility/location to monitor usage and supervises/assists customers as needed. * Acts as support staff for administrative staff and program supervisors. * Carries out all procedures exactly as described by the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in times of emergency or crisis. EAP training will be provided by MPRD. * May supervise the fitness area and all members during operational hours. * May be required to maintain proficiency in computer data entry skills, including use of CivicRec and/or other software solutions. * May answer the phone in a cheerful, polite manner. Directs phone calls to the proper people. * May work in an after-school program setting for middle schoolers that includes monitoring participants, enforcing rules, and participating in activities. * Other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Education and Experience * Must be 18 years of age or older. * Valid driver's license (Fall, Winter, & Spring). Preferred Education and Experience * Knowledge and experience of recreation and fitness, spots, game rules, and regulations. Physical Demands/Work Environment * Work will be performed at assigned location(s), which could be indoor and/or outdoor. * Staff will be required to work varied shifts daily including evenings, weekends and some holidays. * Employee may be required to work in extreme temperatures. * Work is performed in a potentially noisy environment. * Employee must have the ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle, feel, speak, hear, climb stairs, push, pull, or lift up to 40 pounds. Other Information * This is a seasonal position and, as such, is not covered by KPERS. * Uniforms will be provided.
