SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
A C&S (Communications & Signals) Helper assists Qualified Employees in corrective and preventative maintenance and construction of signal equipment such as wayside signals, crossing equipment and electric switch machines. This work involves digging, trenching, painting, wiring, and cabling at both inside and outside locations and being a watchman when required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Laborers must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to walk up to fifteen miles on an assigned route, and to lift refuse containers weighing up to 75 pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A valid driver's license and good physical health and stamina are necessary to successfully perform the duties of this classification.
SCOPE OF EXAMINATION: There will be a physical agility test. Due to the large number of candidates expected to apply, the City will hold a lottery drawing to randomly select those individuals who will be granted admission to the examination. All applicants will be notified by mail as to whether they were selected in the lottery. Exemption from the lottery system of admission will be made only for seasonal employees of the City of Stamford. Final score will be based on the passing score of the physical agility.
