    Job Details Newport News, VADescription The Plumbers Apprentice/Helper aids the technician in all daily and scheduled tasks. Including but not limited to maintenance, repairs, and installations of all types of plumbing equipment, domestic water systems, sewer systems, and related devices. The Plumbers Apprentice/Helper is also responsible for the proper clean-up and storage of equipment and the overall cleaning of the work area. Operational: Assist plumbers by performing rough ins, repairing, and replacing fixtures, and locating and repairing leaking or broken pipes. Cut or drill holes in walls or floors to accommodate the passage of pipes. Measure, cut, thread, and assemble new pipe, placing the assembled pipe in hangers or other supports. Mount brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to hold pipes and set sleeves or inserts to provide support for pipes. Requisition tools and equipment, select type and size of pipe, and collect and transport materials and equipment to work site. Fit or assist in fitting valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems, using hand tools. Assist pipefitters in the layout, assembly, and installation of piping for air, ammonia, gas, and water systems. Excavate and grade ditches and lay and join pipes for water and sewer service with supervision. Cut pipe and lift to fitters. Disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipes. Perform cleaning tasks after work is complete to ensure customer satisfaction. Retain pertinent information to further industry knowledge and skills. Attend to work assignment instructions or to supervisor's orders. All other duties assigned. Safety: Practice proper safety procedures in all areas including: Running service calls to include crawling under houses, crouching, carrying machines and other objects weighing more than 25 lbs. Shoveling, transporting dirt and debris. Backfilling excavated sites. Raking and cleaning up. Bending, squatting, climbing stairs, walking, and standing for extended periods of time. Driving for extended periods with frequent stops Perform job within safety guidelines and use PPE when necessary. If authorized to drive a company vehicle, obey all laws, and keep your vehicle clean and stocked with all tools and parts needed for jobs. In instances where the use of machines is necessary (i.e., cable machines, hydro-jetter, cameras, operation of backhoe) to complete assigned tasks be sure to follow all company mandated safety precautions as well as all manufacturer mandated safety precautions. Follow all federal, state, and local laws. Vehicle/Equipment Maintenance: Keep service vehicles organized and clean. Maintain truck inventory. Ensure the proper use of machinery in both operation and safety. Clean, properly maintain and properly store all equipment used. This job requires certain physical requirements that are essential to the position. It is required that this position be able to move about buildings (inside and outside), bend low or kneel, reach overhead, lift at least 50lbs unassisted, ascend/descend stairs, be aware of surroundings, judge distances, recognize colors, distinguish sounds, and detect by touch or smell. Other requirements include proper and effective communication and the ability to comprehend and exchange detailed information accurately, loudly, and/or quickly. Customer Service: Present findings and options to customers, providing advice as needed/requested. Provide customers with information and pricing on service agreements, accessories, and other improvements. Clean equipment/work area Ensure complete customer satisfaction upon completion of work. Represent the company in a positive light when dealing with the public in any way. Technology/Equipment: Proficiency with all job-related technology, equipment, and parts. Proper maintenance of all technology, equipment, and parts. Qualifications Knowledge of Job Duties: Proficient knowledge of daily tasks as assigned. Ability to work with little to no supervision. Willingness to learn and display proper industry knowledge. Communication Communicate properly and efficiently with customers, peers, and management. Teamwork Willingness and ability to work well with others. Motivation to step in and help peers when needed regardless of if the task falls under their job description. Time Management Ability to meet deadlines and desired goals within a timely manner. Properly track job start/stop times and maintain personal timesheets within company policy. Problem Solving Ability to problem solve within the scope of their job. Present issues to management in a timely manner to avoid escalation.
