Skilled Laborer Reports To: Foreman Summary: Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material in manufacturing plant, shipyard, or on construction project by performing the following duties. Essential Qualifications, Duties, and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned) Works with craft personnel and assist in removing scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust and dirt from equipment. Utilize shovels and other hand equipment to move products from one place to another as directed. Utilize mops and brooms to clean areas of work free of clutter and environmentally friendly. Inspect tools for safe usage prior to delivering and/or removing tools from work locations. Ensures that a proper inventory of equipment is readily available in trucks, trailers or other tool storage areas. Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, by the use of tag lines. Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads in order to ensure safety of workers, equipment and materials. General Description: Assist Craftsman in the construction, erection, installation, and repairs of structures and fixtures of metal, wood, plywood, and/or wallboard using hand tools and power tools. Essential Functions: * Reads and studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated. * Selects and transports appropriate materials and tools for job. * Measures boards, timbers, plywood or other materials using a square, tape, and/or ruler, and marks cutting lines on material. * Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes. * Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, glue, or dowel pins. * Braces forms in place with timbers, tie-rods, and anchor bolts for use in building concrete piers, footings, and walls. * Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete. * Builds false work to temporarily strengthen, protect or disguise building concrete piers, footings, and walls * Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and/or carpenters level. * Operates survey equipment to ensure accuracy. * Utilizes basic math skills while doing surveys and for measurements and assembly of structures. * Duties may include light administration and assistance to Project Superintendent. Raises, places and unites girders, columns and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure framework, working as member of crew.
