General Job Description: Assist the Driver with all deliveries to our customers in a professional and efficient manner. Most deliveries will require offloading of gypsum products from a boom truck into a house or building. The Helper performs duties and operations to assist driver's complete customer routes with a focus on providing exceptional customer service and adhering to all health and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities Loads and empties residential and/or commercial containers into truck manually or mechanically. Maneuvers containers that are staged curbside, dockside, carryout, or require pullout to complete service. Operates hoisting device to lift and empty bins or containers into truck hopper. Places any and all bins serviced at any customer location back where they were picked-up from in the up-right position with covers placed back on the containers. Assists driver with all backing maneuvers while on route. Loads trash and recycling into a rear load truck in fluctuating weather conditions. Lifts 50 pounds constantly throughout the day while able to maintain the stamina to successfully complete the duties of this physically demanding position. The City of Dover Community Services Department is seeking two Laborers (or Truck Drivers depending on qualifications) to perform perform a variety of routine unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor duties involving the construction and maintenance of highways, sidewalks, and storm drainage projects. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. $19.07 to $27.56 per hour. Position is open until filled. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position. The listed examples may not include all duties found in this class): 1. Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling, raising old manhole covers and catch basins to road level for street reconstruction. 2. Attach and remove snow plows, sanders, and associated equipment from vehicles. 5. Assists in other activities to mitigate conditions caused by extreme weather conditions, and natural and man-made disasters. 6. Operate and perform maintenance on hand tools and other machinery which may include, but not be limited to, mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, weed whackers, etc. 7. Occasionally performs traffic control functions at job sites. 8. Operate trucks and motorized equipment as necessary. 9. Maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. 10. Available 24 hours per day to meet emergency situations as required. 11. Familiar with and executes safe work procedures associated with assigned work. 12. Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Basic knowledge of and the ability to use simple hand and power tools.
