The Role
The Regulatory Counsel, Regulatory Compliance will support and work cross-functionally with the Operational Compliance, Asset Protection Solutions, Innovation, Operations, Revenue, Project Management, Product Development, Quality, Human Resources, Retail, Omni-Channel Operations, Facilities, Medical Experience, Apps, Privacy, Licensing, IT, Government Affairs, and Legal teams and be an expert on adherence to all laws related to retail, CPG, and advertising/marketing issues across all of GTI's markets. This individual will work closely with senior and local leadership to support compliance with all aspects of state and federal law and will report to the Assistant General Counsel: Regulatory Compliance.
Responsibilities
Independently review, analyze, and keep current on all state, local, and federal laws, including hemp laws, affecting the cannabis industry and effectively communicate same to all appropriate teams across the organization.
Effective and efficient monitoring and management of outside counsel spend in connection with regulatory and compliance matters.
Provide guidance and legal advice to Operational Compliance Market Managers on all compliance issues.
Provide updates and guidance to support retail and CPG facilities in designated markets relating to new laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance (
g.,
regulatory bulletins), and prepare checklists and guides as needed relating to how the changes affect the company's business, including for hemp derived products.
Assist Operational Compliance Market Managers and local teams investigate and respond to notices of deficiencies, regulatory disputes, and regulatory inquiries from agencies in designated markets.
Serve as a key resource providing guidance to all appropriate teams in designated markets to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate risks that may affect the company.
Maintain regular dialogue with senior and local leadership concerning compliance issues and assist with preparing a monthly report to GTI executives detailing regulatory compliance issues for the prior month, identifying potential issues of non-compliance and providing recommendations for mitigating such instances when applicable.
Assist the Operational Compliance and APS teams to comply with, update, and submit Standard Operating Procedures and Operational Plans to the regulatory agencies for review and approval.
Provide guidance and assistance to all appropriate teams across the organization relating to regulatory submissions (
g.,
variances, modifications, alteration requests, etc.).
Assist with internal regulatory compliance audits, and other projects as needed, to prepare the company's facilities for regulatory inspection and to address any potential compliance issues.
Establish and maintain good rapport and communication with inspectors, state police, and regulatory agencies.
Liaise with local counsel during high activity periods such as Adult Use flips or major projects/transactions.
Work cross-functionally with the company's Government Affairs team to assist with execution on the company's strategic priorities. If requested, represent the company at meetings with legislators, regulators, and local officials.
Monitor enforcement actions in GTI markets to better inform the business on compliance risks. Take learnings from the compliance failures of other operators and apply them to GTI's operations to avoid similar errors.
Qualifications
Licensed attorney with JD Degree from an accredited law school.
5+ years regulatory law experience, ideally in the regulated cannabis industry or another highly regulated industry, such as food and beverage, alcohol, pharmaceutical, gaming, or tobacco.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate in a professional manner both internally and externally with regulators.
Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information.
Detail-oriented, organized, efficient, and resourceful with strong follow-through skills.
Highly motivated, self-directed, innovative and able to work independently or among teams with keen judgement, common sense, and resourcefulness.
Adapts and thrives in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
Possesses a high level of critical thinking.
Must understand and comply with the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of Green Thumb Industries.
Must have a solid understanding of the cannabis laws, rules, and regulations and passion to further your understanding and knowledge of the industry and laws.

Responsibilities

Job Description
Provides support to the Supervisor interior Design and departmental staff in all aspects of interior design, construction document development, and implementation of Lee Health Interior Design standards. Oversees the maintenance of master interior design specifications and updates of Interior Design standards implementation.
