LANDFILL EQUIPMENT OPERATOR CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Landfill Equipment Operator PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION Operates equipment at the County landfill. Compacts, moves, and covers solid waste; maintains related drainage structures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Inspects and operates varied equipment at the County landfill including compactors, dump trucks, dozers, track hoes, motor graders, loaders, tractors, bin trucks, skid steers, balers, etc. Compacts solid waste, grades landfill slopes, loads dirt, hauls materials, etc. Constructs and maintains roads, ditches, sediment ponds, and berms throughout landfill and surrounding area; ensures proper slopes, grades to allow for adequate drainage and run off. Loads, hauls, and deposits dirt to cover solid waste; sows and maintains grass in designated areas. Performs routine preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment such as fueling, topping of fluids, cleaning and greasing. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Picks up litter and debris from landfill roads and other areas not designated for dumping. Supervisees inmate labor. Performs other related duties as required.
