Essential Duties
The Food Service Technician prepares any food necessary for the Child Development Laboratory School under the childcare licensing requirements by the Texas Department of Family Protective Services. Also responsible for maintaining the lab school kitchen to meet all safety and sanitary requirements outlined by the Brazoria County Health Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Maintain prompt hours, notifying the Director in the event of tardiness or illness
Maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance
Prepare the food served to the children in accordance with the meal patterns required by the Minimum Standards for Licensed Child Care Centers and CACFP
Wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, pots, and pans and replace on shelves or in cabinets
Follow and implement the menus that have been developed and notify the director of any deviation from the posted menu
Must meet guidelines for all applicable state agencies, including Texas Department of Health and Texas Health and Human Services
Follow all personnel policies
Attends staff meetings and functions
Arrange with director and order food and paper items

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent typically works indoors in a kitchen setting. The noise level is typical of that of a kitchen as well as an early childhood school. The employee will be exposed to loud sounds and high noise levels on a daily basis. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. The employee will work very near others and will be exposed to diseases and infections, such as colds and influenza, on a weekly basis.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and sit on the floor; reach with arms and hands and use hands and fingers to handle, feel or grasp. Acute situations may necessitate the ability to run or climb. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to sixty (60) pounds. While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to follow menus, recipes, and schedules
Must have the Texas Food Safety Manager Certification or be able to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire
Have working knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation
Working knowledge of kitchen appliances (i.e. gas stove, dishwasher, chopper, etc.)
Effective communications is required with the childcare administration, childcare teachers parents, delivery personnel, state agencies, licensing representatives and other educational and community institutions that use the laboratory school as a resource location
The ability to make sound judgments regarding the health and safety, food economics
Will on occasion lift, stack, store and utilize kitchen supplies of up to 50 lbs
Must be able to remain on feet, standing or walking, for 90% of the time
