SUMMARY: Prepare, cook, and serve food for students and employees of the school corporation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:
1. Work with the Food Service Manager to prepare and serve nutritious and appetizing meals that are suitable for children and meet state and federal regulations.
2. Practice food and sanitization standards that meet or exceed USDA requirements.
3. Maintain the highest standards of safety through the proper preparation of food and the proper use of equipment.
4. Report immediately to the Food Service Manager any problem or accident occurring in the kitchen or lunchroom.
5. Report to the Food Service Manager the receipt of any faulty or inferior quality food.
6. Perform such other tasks related to food service as may from time to time be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to administrators, staff, and students.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts appropriate to meet the needs of this job including fractions and adjusting measurements to alter recipes.

SALARY RANGE: Hourly as per board-approved wage scale
HOURS OF WORK: 4-6 hours per day (between 6:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.) as determined by need

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the preparation and service of food items and maintaining food service equipment and facilities in a safe, clean, and sanitary manner. The employee receives direct instruction and supervision from the Food Service Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serve students and staff in a cheerful and helpful manner
Work in a team setting with cafeteria and school staff
Prepare menu items following standardized recipes and nutritional guidelines
Package foods for serving lines and ala carte
Set up and stock work areas, serving lines, and dining areas with necessary food, supplies and equipment
Operate point of sale computer system
Clean, sanitize and store food service equipment & utensils including operating dishwasher and manual ware washing
Clean and sanitize work areas, serving lines, and dining areas including sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash
Properly store or dispose of leftover food
Assist other food service staff as needed to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE: Successful work experience with food service and sanitation.
KNOWLEDGE: Basic kitchen equipment and utensils, methods of food preparation, cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
REQUIRED PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to sit, stand, walk, ascend/descend stairs, use hands and fingers, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, push, pull, lift, see, talk and hear. Able to meet physical requirements to safely and effectively perform assigned duties.
REQUIRED GENERAL SKILLS: Understand and follow written and oral communication; operate equipment in a safe and effective manner; perform routine math calculations accurately, establish and maintain effective work relationships, keep student information confidential.
This position is a part-time, non-exempt position.
