General Summary of Position:
The UMass Lowell Municipal Fellow will support a municipality within Massachusetts with energy transition projects as part of the Massachusetts Clean Energy and Environment Legacy Transition (CELT) Initiative. This opportunity is open to all students statewide, regardless of their college/university, location, or field of study. The role is central to supporting the state's transition to geothermal and clean energy solutions, particularly within environmental justice communities, through partnerships with universities and municipalities.
The fellow will be assigned to a municipality or regional municipal organization and to projects or initiatives within that entity. These projects may include but are not limited to direct sustainability work (solar, EV, geothermal advancement), data consolidation or reporting, community outreach, marketing/strategic communications/social media, grant writing/application, research, or finance. The goal of the fellowship will be to collaborate with stakeholders within the town and across the state, and to engage with community members to advance clean energy initiatives. Fellows will attend meetings within the fellowship cohort, contributing and sharing ideas, while also attending ongoing Professional Development.
Key Responsibilities:
Complete a comprehensive onboarding and training program to ensure readiness to start in the municipalities.
Support projects and initiatives as outlined by the Municipality or entity.
Build and maintain relationships with municipalities and state agencies, including the MA Green Communities Division, to support municipal energy transition projects.
Attend regular cohort meetings and Professional Development sessions facilitated by the Municipal Fellow Cohort Coordinator.
Continuously evaluate program success using KPIs designated by the Municipal Fellow Cohort Coordinator as well as the municipality, ensuring goals within the municipality are being met.
Other related duties as assigned including supporting both the mission of the University of Massachusetts Lowell as well as the mission of the municipality or entity as applicable

Reporting to the Deputy Project Director, the Technology Fellow will be responsible for staying abreast of technological developments that have potential consequences for civil liberties, identifying new and emerging civil liberties concerns, and advising ACLU staff on technological matters. This will include providing support to ACLU affiliates on technology issues in specific states or regions. The Technology Fellow will function as an integral part of the Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project, and will work with the lawyers, technologists, and other professionals on the team to support SPT's litigation and advocacy work. ACLU technologists have worked closely with litigators on cases involving surveillance, encryption, and DNA, and have been key spokespeople for the ACLU on issues of technology in the press and in ACLU publications.

The Technology Fellow's responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
Monitor technologies and technological developments that have potential consequences for civil liberties

Studies will examine how menopause and vascular risk factors influence dementia pathology. Our studies utilize a variety of approaches, including in vivo cerebral blood flow measurements, in vivo gene manipulation (AAVs), cognitive behavioral testing, endothelial translatome (TRAP-seq), transcriptomics, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, mouse models of metabolic disease, menopause, andropause, and mouse models of Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and multi-etiology dementia.

About the PI and Albany Medical College: Dr. Zuloaga is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics (DNET) at Albany Medical College, co-founder of the New York Capital Region Postdoctoral Development Program, and Scientific Advisory Board member for the Albert Research Institute for White Matter and Cognition. She has received external funding at every stage of her career, including current funding (NINDS R01, NIA U01, and Alzheimer's Association grants). Albany Medical College is an integral part of a large and active neuroscience community in Albany, which includes SUNY Albany, Wadsworth Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the Neural Stem Cell Institute.
Requirements: Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Physiology, or related discipline, should be highly motivated, and should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. The Climatetech Fellow will be a part of the Technology to Market team, inside of the Emerging Climatetech division, working to support the growth of the Massachusetts clean energy economy and position the Commonwealth as a global leader in clean energy and climatetech innovation. The Technology to Market team is charged with understanding the market ecosystem for clean energy and climatetech sectors, recognizing and supporting emerging technologies and market opportunities, and identifying market trends and barriers. The team oversees a suite of grant programs to help researchers and start-up companies develop and commercialize their clean energy technologies and to help organizations that support early-stage companies (i.e., incubators and accelerators). The Fellow is an important contributor to the team's day-to-day operations.
The Fellow will assist the Technology to Market team with project tracking and management, communication with internal and external stakeholders, program administration, research and analysis activities, and event planning and logistics. The Fellow will contribute to program team meetings; collect and analyze project metrics; perform background research on technologies, companies, or initiatives; and may present results to the team and/or broader organization.

Job Duties

Support MassCEC's clean energy innovation infrastructure including Massachusetts based incubators (i.e., Greentown Labs, North Shore InnoVentures, SeaAhead, etc.), accelerators (i.e., Cleantech Open Northeast, MassChallenge, etc.), and business councils (i.e., Northeast Clean Energy Council).
Track tasks as part of a project, draft meeting notes and memos, research, data entry, create targeted reports and marketing materials, draft memos and letters, work with others to create graphics and maps, update websites.
Review applicant proposals, maintain ownership over program databases and tracking systems, and assist with scheduling meetings and events.
Conduct research and analysis on specific topics/issues related to clean energy technology commercialization and reduction of industry market barriers.

Lead a series of presentations with external parties that were awarded through MassCEC's grant programs.
