About This Role:
The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University invites applications for a full time, 12-month, Post-Doctoral Fellow position. This Post-Doctoral position for independent research including but not limited to viruses such as Influenza, African swine fever, Vesicular Stomatitis, Rift Valley Fever, Monkey Pox and other select agents under both BSL-2 and BSL-3 bio-containment conditions. Duties would include planning and conducting experiments; writing and editing manuscripts/articles; establishing procedures and techniques; and provide educational guidance to students. This position is part of a very busy, successful research team whose main goal is to develop rationally designed vaccines and diagnostics against high-consequence foreign animal, emerging and zoonotic disease threats. The position requires the individual to display critical thinking and independent judgement as it relates to ongoing and new molecular, viral research with direct guidance from the Research Science Manager and Primary Investigator. The research is conducted at the BSL2 and BSL3 level of containment and utilizes several select target animal models such as pigs, cows, chickens and mice. Position Overview

About This Role:
The full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate will be an integral part of the Northwest Agronomy team at the Kansas State University Northwest Research-Extension Center, Colby, Kansas. This individual will have leadership responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of multiple research projects that are focused on improving nitrogen use efficiency in dryland cropping systems and reducing nitrogen losses to N2O greenhouse gas emissions and NH3 volatilization. These projects are part of a DOE supported SmartFarm project and a FFAR AgMission project. This individual will take a lead role in the analysis and publication of data resulting from the many aspects of these projects while also being involved in field operations.
In addition, the individual will have the opportunity to become involved with a diverse set of projects that include corn, sorghum, wheat, dry beans/pulses, cotton, and other crops in the context of dryland and limited irrigation production systems. Opportunities for involvement could include field operations and data collection, data processing and analysis, publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts, and grant submissions.

Research Overview:
Develop and validate an sEV-based detection system for ovarian cancer early detection and disease monitoring. Develop a novel sensitive immunoassay for validating rare EV biomarkers in blood/clinical samples, including immuno-PCR, bead-based EV flow, and imaging-based single EV analysis.
Physical, biochemical, and molecular characterization of sEVs. Develop and optimize efficient and reproducible EV isolation protocol based on downstream applications.
Outline LC-MS/MS based proteomic experiments for discovery proteomics using clinical samples.
Establish the proteome of tumor-associated sEVs. Specifically identify unique proteins or distinct pattern of proteins present in sEVs derived from fallopian tube and HGSOC cell lines and tissue explants by mass spectrometry/proteomics; verify the resulting candidate biomarkers by high-throughput capillary-based immunoassays; and isolate sEVs and analyze by immunoassays and immunoprecipitation to prioritize candidate exo-proteins for the ovarian cancer “fingerprint” that can differentiate HGSOC from controls and other ovarian cancer patients.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
