Approximately 25% of a fellow's time is spent on educational activities with the other 75% in providing care.

UMKC School of Law has an exciting opportunity to join our Tenant Assistance Initiative as a Truman Fellow. The Truman Fellowship Program (named for Harry S. Truman, 33rd President of the United States, who attended Kansas City School of Law and served for a time as the presiding judge in Jackson County, Missouri), provides newly licensed and experienced attorneys with an opportunity for training and public service. The Tenant Assistance Initiative provides legal counsel to tenants facing eviction in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Tenants are referred to UMKC by the Right to Counsel program for Kansas City, Missouri, by United Way, and through other outreach efforts. Fellows represent tenants with supervision and training from the UMKC initiative.
The city of Kansas City, Missouri, passed the Right to Counsel ordinance in 2021, which became effective June 1, 2022. The UMKC Tenant Assistance Initiative is one of the legal services providers under contract to provide tenant representation for the Kansas City program. However, attorneys have to make regular (typically at least once per week) appearances in court for hearings, conferences, and trials.
Flexible work arrangements (including telework) are available. The Fellowship program supports the option of remote work and in-person/on-site work.
Position is temporary, full time, exempt, and non benefit eligible.
In general, length of appointment is expected to be three - eight months. Truman Fellowships can vary based on the candidate's availability and preference, the initiative's needs, and funding availability. 4. Serves as a member of the Center Crisis Intervention Team. This may include:

b. Maintaining required crisis intervention documentation and monitoring all delivery of service to patients on crisis status.
5. Provides consultation to center staff and administration on the treatment of specific patients.
6. Completes comprehensive psychosocial histories on selected patients.
7. Provides individual and group therapy for patients identified through evaluation or referred by other MH personnel.
8. Administers, scores, and interprets objective and projective psychological testing in appropriate cases.
9. Conducts discharge planning for seriously mentally ill patients returning to the community.

Fellows must complete the designated number of procedures (surgical, ultrasound, etc) as determined by the fellowship directors.
13. Evaluations
Fellows must have evaluations completed on them (40 clinical evaluations and 20 surgical evaluations total) and have evaluations completed on PCH faculty (40 attending evaluations total) on a quarterly basis throughout their fellow year.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Curator of Academic Programs and Collections, the Community Engagement Fellow will design and implement community-centered programs that connect diverse Chicago communities with Museum of Contemporary Photography (MoCP). Rooted in the museum's mission to explore the artistic, cultural, and political dimensions of photography, the Fellow will foster meaningful, long-term partnerships that extend beyond individual exhibitions. This role includes managing key initiatives such as the Dammeyer Fellowship in Photographic Arts and Social Issues, the Snider Prize, and public programs. The Fellow will also collaborate with community members, schools, and partner organizations to create dynamic, impactful programming and drive engagement across Chicago's cultural landscape.
This is a grant-funded part-time position (approximately 19 hours per week), continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding and/or program needs.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
* Identify communities and assess their needs and interests to develop collaborations aligned with exhibitions and other museum programs.
* Sustain existing community relationships and plan ongoing events with previous community partners.
* Promote programs among internal partners and broader audiences to enhance visibility and participation.
* Manage budgets, oversee assigned projects, and track participation in community engagement programs and public events.
* Research participants, extend invitations, and coordinate logistics for public programs.
* Oversee the administration of the Dammeyer Fellowship in Photographic Arts and Social Issues and the Snider Prize, including drafting calls for entry, managing jurying sessions, communicating with artists, and coordinating the Dammeyer final exhibition.
* Assist the Curator of Academic Programs and Collections with "Art, Activism, Policy, Power" program.
* Work closely with museum educators and visiting faculty to schedule exhibition tours and print viewings of objects from the museum's collection.
* Occasionally represent the museum at education networking events and community engagement events.
* Work occasional evening and weekend hours as required to support programs and events.
* Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
