    The Department of Communication at the University of North Alabama is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our faculty for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in Mass Communication - Public Relations, beginning in August 2025. This is a nine-month appointment, with an opportunity for teaching in the summer based on departmental need. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. Sponsorship is not available for this position. The standard teaching load is twelve (12) credit hours per semester. Experience in online teaching or a willingness to learn how to develop and teach online courses is required. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in Crisis Management, PR Cases, PR Writing, and other courses as needed.A PhD in mass communication or a related area from an accredited university is required (ABD candidates may be considered). Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in public relations or communications and a record of teaching excellence. Minimum Qualifications An earned doctorate in a discipline taught within the college is required; significant teaching experience and scholarly achievements commensurate with those required for appointment at the rank of full professor is required; and a record of successful administrative experience and leadership in a university setting at the level of department head or above is required. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; a record of involvement with professional organizations consistent with the mission of the college; strong financial skills to include budget planning and financial management; knowledge of national accreditation standards for the disciplines within the college; success in fundraising and alumni engagement; ability to work collaboratively with other colleges and offices throughout the university; experience in strategic planning; a demonstrated commitment to the recruitment, professional development, and retention of a talented and diverse workforce; an understanding of educational technology trends in traditional and online instruction; a commitment to applied research, including undergraduate research; and commitment to workforce development initiatives.
