Fashion assistants work under fashion designers and other professionals in the industry, mainly providing support with administrative tasks and other duties that are essential for the business.

Fashion assistants help prepare fashion shows, photoshoots, and launches by assisting with set designs, coordinating with models, preparing wardrobes, and liaising for staff, suppliers, and other people involved. They may also perform tasks that are unrelated to fashion but are nevertheless important, such as managing correspondence, arranging travel and accommodation, preparing reports and presentations, and accomplishing miscellaneous tasks that their manager assigns.

Most employers require at least a high school diploma or GED for this role, but there is generally no standard for academic qualifications. Employers deem the ability to perform administrative work and various soft skills as more important. Moreover, some employers may require previous experience in an administrative or clerical position.

The average salary of a fashion assistant is $23 an hour or about $48,800 per year. Aside from the good pay, this position also provides opportunities to expand skills and knowledge, which can help one create their own designs and establish a career in fashion in the future.

What general advice would you give to a Fashion Assistant?
