    Farm Worker Full Time - Hourly At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package. The base hiring pay for this role is $19.25 per hour. Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States Applicants must not now, or any time in the future, require sponsorship for an employment visa. Purpose of Position: General labor to assist Farm Manager and Farm Assistant Manager in achieving required work goals. This includes, but is not limited to, daily chores, running machinery and equipment, and handle and care for live turkeys. This position will require light paperwork, some math skills, walking on uneven surfaces frequently, lifting, twist, bending and squatting frequently and varying temperature environments. Principle Accountabilities: Help perform daily chores as assigned by farm management. Assist with maintaining litter for optimal conditions for turkeys. Record daily information in flock books for record keeping. Operate machinery and equipment when required. Follow all safety protocols and guidelines - wearing all required PPE ( safety glasses, respiratory equipment, etc). Follow all Live Production processes and procedures. Follow all biosecurity guidelines, including, but not limited to, showering before work each day, not wearing personal shoes on farm, using company provided boots on farm and in barns, wearing provided scrubs/coveralls in barns. Perform other duties as instructed and assigned by management. Handle and care for live turkeys in accordance with established animal welfare guidelines. Have open communication with fellow employees and farm management. Conduct self in a positive, team oriented manner. Minimum Qualification: Must have reliable means of transportation to and from assigned farm. Good previous attendance records (school and/or previous employment). Able to work 7 days/week with some varied hours and with some weekends and holidays. Possess a level of math, reading, and writing skills necessary to successfully perform record keeping task required of the position. Able to lift up to 35 lbs from floor to waist height frequently, with occasional lifts from floor to full extension. Able to wear eye and respiratory protection equipment on a continuous basis. Able to walk on uneven surfaces. Preferred qualifications: Valid drivers license. High school diploma, or actively enrolled in high school, or equivalent. Harlem Grown operates 13 urban agricultural sites featuring 5 soil-based urban farms, 4 school gardens, 3 hydroponic greenhouses, and a mushroom chamber. All of our sites are located between 122 and 152 Streets in Central Harlem, Manhattan. Since 2021, our programming has served over 10,000 youth in Harlem, we've produced and distributed over 100,000 servings of food, and diverted over 50,000 pounds of food scraps into local compost operations. Our Programs Harlem Grown provides youth and community development programs focused on urban farming, wellness, and sustainability through the lens of racial justice, food justice, social justice, and equity. Our youth focused programs include intensive school partnerships, educational farm tours, a summer camp, a Saturday enrichment program, monthly community events, an afterschool program, and our Mobile Teaching Kitchen. Our community development programs open to all ages include wellness workshops, special events, food scrap collection for composting, and fresh produce distribution to participants, volunteers, and neighborhood residents. Seasonal 24- 28 hours per week Schedule: This position will likely have a schedule consisting of Monday through Friday 9:00am-3:00pm work week. Some Saturdays will be required as needed but will not work more 28 hours per week in total. The Role The seasonal farmer plays an essential role in helping maintain the success of our various sites around Harlem. As part of the seasonal farm crew, you will help provide essential support in the upkeep and performance of these areas. You will help support urban farm production on our farms and school gardens both on an independent basis as well as working with a team. At the start of the season daily responsibilities will be provided, this would include site opening procedures, cleanliness & safety standards as well as closing procedures both for the school gardens and main sites. This role is hands-on and involves community and volunteer engagement. This team member will report to the Agricultural Director and Farm Manager to support our main sites, school gardens, and educational programs. Ensure the full maintenance of MicroHabitat's urban farms and engage organization members by providing project information and horticultural advice. Conduct educational activities with MicroHabitat clients. Perform various tasks, including harvesting, propagating, watering, tying tomato plants, pest and weed control, cleaning harvests, and delivering produce. Perform quality control tasks and issue reports for horticultural management. Representation and Administration: Attend team meetings and partner meetings. Write reports and document activities for each production space. Perform tasks related to purchasing and maintaining tools and infrastructure. Conduct quality control and generate reports for managing the roofs of urban farms. Follow and maintain safety protocols related to MicroHabitat operations. Participate in the creation of standardization documents and training guides for company operations. Work directly with different company branches (sales and marketing) and with other cities where MicroHabitat operates. Be experienced and comfortable using technology, including smartphones, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet).
