Summary CSS Farms is seeking Seasonal Farm Workers to assist in the harvest of potatoes. This position supports the farm doing general farm labor in preparation for harvest. Duties may involve grading potatoes, cleaning, shipping, and other duties as assigned. We will train the right person! Employees that complete the entire harvest season with us may be eligible for an end-of-season bonus. Job Summary: This role is labor-intensive, focusing on maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the sanctuary grounds. Key duties include cleaning up after animals, removing and disposing of manure, sanitizing animal enclosures, and performing general farm maintenance. The ideal candidate will be hardworking, self-motivated, and passionate about contributing to the well-being of rescued animals through diligent manual work. Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 7:00am-3:30 pm *Please only apply if you are available to work this schedule. Key Responsibilities: Clean and remove manure from animal enclosures 4-6 hours daily. Feeding, watering, and handling of farm animals. Prepping feed. Ensure animals have clean and safe enclosures throughout the day and keep areas well maintained and orderly. Sanitize enclosures, barns, feeding areas, and other animal spaces. Maintain the overall cleanliness of the farm, including pathways, storage areas, and shared spaces. Maintain farm area by sweeping, picking up sticks, trimming & pulling weeds. Dispose of waste safely and according to sanctuary protocols. Assist with replenishing bedding, cleaning water troughs, and digging ditches. Assist in loading and unloading animal supplies at the sanctuary. Perform other manual labor tasks as needed to support the sanctuary's operations. Qualifications: Must be able to perform strenuous tasks, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Prior experience working on a farm or with animals is beneficial but not required; training will be provided. Strong attention to detail, especially regarding cleanliness and sanitation. Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Dependable and committed to completing tasks efficiently and thoroughly. Experience: Minimum 1 years' experience working on a farm with livestock is beneficial but not required. Minimum Requirements: Able to handle outdoor work and perform outside physical work in varying weather conditions. Willing and able to clean up and care for farm animals. Self-motivated individual who can learn to identify and complete tasks on their own or as directed. Ability to stand, crouch, bend and be on your feet for 8 hours in various terrains and conditions. Ability to recognize natural animal behaviors and respond with appropriate action for safety. Observe animal daily activities, eating habits, behavior and appearance for any abnormalities and report to management. Must have a valid driver's license. Must have dependable transportation. Background check required. Working Conditions: Work is normally performed outside in all weather conditions. Exposure to unpleasant odors and noises. Possible exposure to contagious diseases. Physical Requirements: Often requires lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 75 lbs. Walking and/or standing for long periods. Frequently work in a bent position. May be required to use appropriate strength techniques to capture and restrain stronger, more active animals. This role helps to foster self-reliance, care for the poor and the needy, and provide opportunities for giving and service by: helping members become economically and emotionally self-reliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items; helping members prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering; thus furthering the mission of the Church. Operates assigned farm machinery and equipment, and performs semi or unskilled physical labor to assist project manager in the planting, cultivating, irrigating and harvesting of crops on the welfare project. May assist with livestock as required. 70% Drives or operates assigned farm machines, such as tractors, trucks, and harvesters to perform specified activities such as cultivating row crops, cutting hay, and harvesting wheat. Drives tractor and operates designated towed machine, such as seed drill or manure spreader to plant, fertilize, and spray crops. Operate pivots. Moves switches, pulls levers, and turns knobs and wheels to activate and regulate mechanisms. 15% Makes minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery. Adds oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, and water to appropriate tanks on farm machinery 15% Performs manual duties involved in planting, cultivating, irrigating and harvesting crops. May mix chemical solutions, such as pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers in preparation for application to crops. May move irrigation tubing and/or pipes throughout farm project. Uses hand-held shovel, hoe and rake to perform assigned duties. May drive and operate some farm machinery as assigned by supervisor. Three years prior agriculture farm experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. One year demonstrated experience operating and maintaining basic farm machinery and equipment. Must be mechanically oriented and have proven mechanical skills. Must have proper driver's license for equipment operation. Must possess the ability to work steadily and quickly. Ability to hear, understand and follow directions from supervisor. Incumbent must work long, strenuous hours in varying climate conditions. Incumbent makes only minor decisions as it relates to assigned tasks. The freedom to act and make decisions increases with the level of knowledge and experience gained.
