Job Summary
Estimator I and II titles are developmental positions within the preconstruction department. The El/Ell provides support for single large projects or multiple smaller projects. Position Overview:
We are currently seek an experienced Estimator to join our Provo, UT team! The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for electrical infrastructure construction projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and related documents to determine the cost of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. The Cost Estimator ensures that all estimates are competitive and align with company standards and client expectations.
What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities:
* Scope Analysis:
* Review project plans and specifications to understand the scope of work.
* Analyze and interpret requests for proposals (RFP), project specifications, and pricing schedules.
* Cost Estimation:
* Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
* Perform material, labor, and equipment take-offs and cost analyses to support estimates.
* Develop and maintain cost databases.
* Prepare pre-approval project estimates based on drawings, narratives, and general scopes of work.
* Collaboration and Communication:
* Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and competitive estimates.
* Attend pre-bid meetings, collaborations, and conferences with clients and design professionals.
* Define division of responsibilities, draft scope letters, proposals, and vendor solicitations.
* Work with clients on questions and clarifications post-bid submission.
* Assist project team with questions regarding construction and contractual requirements.
* Data Analysis and Improvement:
* Analyze historical data and project performance to improve future estimates.
* Develop weighting criteria for proposal evaluations.
* Review estimates with the operations team and executive team.
* Compliance and Standards:
* Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
* Manage change orders and cost-to-complete estimates of ongoing projects.
* Proposal and Bid Preparation:
* Participate in bid reviews and presentations.
* Prepare and submit proposal documents to clients.
* Provide expert judgment of costs to support competitive bid and negotiated contracts.
* Additional Responsibilities:
* Perform budget pricing from schematic drawings and narratives.
* Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division or project management.
What You'll Bring
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction cost estimating, preferably in electrical infrastructure.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
* Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.
