Position Summary Operates light or medium automotive or other equipment in road construction or maintenance involving skilled or difficult operation; assists with and performs skilled manual tasks. Performs more difficult and complex functions specializing in the area of street maintenance, construction, and traffic control. II. Completes routine maintenance and minor repairs of striping equipment. * Loads and operates water tanker; applies water to road surfaces and ditches. * Operates a front-end loader of more than one cubic yard capacity to move earth and rocks, fill trucks, clean ditches and other operations. * Assists in the repair of road and culvert washouts; schedules asphalt trucks for grind and inlay and blade patch crews; calculate asphalt for dig out excavations. * Operates crack filler melter to heat asphalt, maintain proper temperature and circulation; transports; rakes hot asphalt; uses distributor to complete fog seal and blade patch operations. * Plows ice and snow from roadway; sands ice or packed snow on roadways; removes hazardous spills; drives sand truck to complete de-icing applications. * Excavates culvert beds; lift and load culverts onto truck using forklift; shoots grade for culvert installation; use culvert flusher to clear debris. * Uses power broom to perform shouldering work, clean intersections and remove debris from roadway. * Conducts pre-shift safety and maintenance inspection of equipment to be used. * Operates self-propelled road roller in hot mix asphaltic patches, chip seal and gravel road operations. * Uses asphalt patch truck in cold mix applications; fills potholes; repairs deteriorated areas of asphalt. * Makes minor equipment repairs; prepare vehicle maintenance reports; submits to supervisor. * Prepares a variety of written and computer records, forms, and logs to assist in the inventory and maintenance of signs, materials, jobs completed. * Acts as a mentor and trainer for other department personnel. * Adheres to regulatory requirements, collective bargaining agreements, County and departmental policies and procedures, required trainings, as well as safe work practices. * Develops and maintains effective internal and external working relationships at all levels. * Has regular and reliable attendance. Marion County Public Works is seeking (2) Medium Equipment Operators to add to our Road & Bridge Operations Division. The Medium Equipment Operator position will join a collaborative team taking part in the necessary tasks for the operation and maintenance of signs/stripes/pavement markings & litter control. In addition, you will assist other teams with maintaining other roadway features within the Marion County community including pavement/drainage, bridges/guardrails, roadside vegetation, and snow & ice response. This position requires a commercial driver's license (CDL-A) within six months of hire upon the provided successful completion of training. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Responsible for the operation of medium road maintenance equipment. Performs moderately complex equipment operation duties for road, bridge, vegetation, sign making, drainage conveyance, ferry maintenance; nuisance control, environmental site, landfill, and transfer station maintenance control and/or construction. Works collaboratively with BTI management and other instructors to improve the overall program and the student experience. Position Title: Baler/Loader Operator 1 Pay Rate: $20.57/hr Category/Shift: Hourly Full-Time (Swing Shift, Monday - Friday) Physical Location: 5505 SW Western Avenue, Beaverton, OR 97005 The Job You Will Perform: * Complete pre-start loader maintenance inspection report (or VCR) * Responsible for feeding paper from tipping pad to baler conveyor (all facets of loading the baler) * Operate balers according to brand specifications (MacPress, Enterprise, Bollegraff, IPS) * Load the baler utilizing either the front loader, skid steer or forklift * Record grade, percentage of waste in compactor dumped material * Monitor paper feed line * Monitor wire condition and feed * Monitor bales for mill readiness including: * Adequate wiring * Proper grade and quality * Weight * Record maintenance activity on equipment * Record baler downtime * Assist with daily weekly monthly PMs for baler and feed conveyors * Operate shredder and follow all NAID requirements for document destruction * Ensure driveway is free of material * Keep paper/plastic from accumulating around property fence line * Prevent loose paper from accumulating at the rail dock area * Clean pit monthly or as needed * Remove material build-up from incline conveyors * Assist with pushing material from inside bunkers onto conveyor * Communicate paper grade to Material Handler to ensure proper storage * Inform Material Handler of any rejected bales * Communicate with Plant Lead - maintenance issues, downtime, production issues * Report the completion of all paper goods to obtain alternate assignment * Maintain a safe and clean work environment according to plant housekeeping standards * Attend and participate in plant safety meetings * Manage controllable costs through proper equipment, tool and consumable usage * Report any safety or maintenance concerns * Adhere to Plant policies and guidelines * Other duties may be assigned The Skills You Will Bring: * Must be 18 years of age * Must be authorized to work in the United States * Ability to work any shift as needed * Ability to work overtime as needed * Ability to read, write and speak English fluently * Alertness, visual ability, and good communication skills * On-the-job success in safety, attendance & quality of work expected * Ability to safely replace wire spools * Ability to be trained on safe baler operation, including Lock-out, Tag out procedures * Ability to operate/monitor the following equipment: Baler, In-feed Conveyor, Forklift, Front Loader, Skid Steer The Benefits You Will Enjoy: International Paper offers a benefits package that includes health, welfare and retirement plans including Medical, Dental, Life insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Short-term Disability, 401(k) and/or Pension (where applicable), Paid Time Off, Education & Development (including Tuition Reimbursement), and Voluntary Benefits including insurance for home, auto, vision and pets. Supplies the line with a continuous supply of material Pushes piles to ensure setbacks, pile height and stockpile shaping meets the criteria set by the Department of Environmental Health Services Performs a safety and equipment check before each use of the loader Receives load tickets from haulers, ensures accuracy, signs, accumulate until the end of the day and forwards the tickets in a neat and clean appearance to the office personnel for inventory entry Pumps diesel fuel into the loader by an electrical pump and ensures all safety practices are used to prevent injury Monitors the stock piles for excessive heat, turns stockpiles and ensures the proper amount of water is used to prepare the stockpile for production use Meets quality and quantity standards- Performs the proper operation and minor maintenance of equipment- Accurately verifies quantity of material.
