Operates vehicles and pieces of equipment including man basket truck (aerial platform), street sweeper, single axle truck, dump body/flatbed with sanders and plows, forklift with man basket, grade tractor (front), front end loader IT (integrated tool carrier) with all attachments except blower, mobile concrete mixer trailer, asphalt recycler, bumper mounted crack seal pot, asphalt tack pot trailer, signs and barricade trailer and air compressors, jack hammer, sand blaster pot. Performs minor preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs to equipment and necessary adjustments to controls. When necessary, assists an Equipment Operator II in repainting or maintaining traffic markings including thermo plastic applications. Generally, operates light to medium equipment used in right-of-way maintenance and repair. Including, but not limited to, manually operated, gas powered, pneumatic powered, and electric powered hand tools and equipment required for maintaining a street right of way. Performs work necessary to assist working crews when not actively engaged in vehicle preparation. Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position. Qualifications Knowledge and Skills The position requires knowledge of light to medium equipment; preventative maintenance and repair of equipment. Setting up and maintaining a safe traffic control plan and work zones. Basic understanding of road construction and pavement maintenance in and out of the right of way, concrete forming, placement and finishing (preferred). Basic understanding of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); basic computer skills (preferred), to include knowledge of current system(s) used by Streets and Equipment Division. Knowledge of Tapco sign system, Word, Excel, and other basic computer software. Requires skills to safely operate basic hand and power tools and/or construction equipment. Abilities Read and interpret documents in the English language, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write, in English, routine reports and correspondence; add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unites of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization; and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Learn and use basic computer systems for word processing, spreadsheet, data base programs and similar. Must be able to work any shift or hours assigned, including overtime, weekends, on-call periods, and holidays, as directed. Licenses and Certificates Must possess and maintain a valid Oregon driver's license at time of appointment and must obtain a Commercial Driver's License, Class B, with airbrake and tanker endorsements within six (6) months of hire date.. Must possess and maintain an Oregon Flagger certification and forklift certification. Preferred: Oregon Commercial Driver's License with Class A Tanker's endorsement.
