Candidate must be willing to travel up to 90% of the time, have a valid driver's license with clean record, have the ability to drive and fly to sites around the country, work outside in all weather conditions, and pass a pre-placement physical exam as well as routine drug and alcohol monitoring.

Position: Environmental Project Manager

We are looking for a team oriented and energetic problem solver to become the next integral member of our environmental science team. General duties include management and primary direction of multi-discipline projects. Responsibilities include managing, controlling, and monitoring environmental aspects of the project, technical leadership, quality assurance, inter-department and client coordination. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, coordination and execution of field investigations and analysis of natural, economic and social resources, proposal support and development for new business.

Project Management:
Prepare proposals, scopes of work, fee justifications, and contracts for projects
Plan, direct, and coordinate all activities of project to ensure goals or objectives of the project are accomplished within prescribed funding and schedule parameters
Establish project work plans for each project which includes essential elements of the project with major milestones and potential obstacles, project schedule, and financial plan that includes project budget, man-hour utilization forecast, and billing forecast
Monitor and control project financial plans, review project cost sheets, and prepare monthly invoices
Prepare monthly cost/profit analysis and billing projections for projects
For inter-departmental projects, coordinate with the Transportation Project Development Director and/or Project Manager as necessary to maintain and drive the project schedules
Coordinate projects with the client, local government agencies, and permitting agencies as necessary to drive project schedules
As necessary, coordinate each project with other department's schedules through the overall Project Manager and Environmental Services Group Leader. Ensure productivity and cooperation among the project team
Coordinate projects with sub consultant's work schedules
Serve as representative of firm at all required project meetings, presentations, and public hearings, and prepare documentation of items discussed
Maintain correspondence file for projects
Monitor electronic file and plan organization and archiving

Technical Direction:
Direct and coordinate activities of environmental specialists, staff scientists and technicians to ensure projects progress on schedule and within prescribed budgets
Oversee preparation of National Environmental Policy Act documentation
Oversee delineation of wetlands and other jurisdictional Waters of the US and the State of Indiana and permitting for impacts through the US Army Corps of Engineers and/or Indiana Department of Environmental Management
Mentor and provide direct hands-on assistance when teaching new environmental analyses, oral and writing skills to environmental specialists and staff scientists
Stay current with environmental procedures, statutes, rules, guidance and policies
Attend seminars and continuing education to enhance skills in relevant disciplines
Quality Assurance:
Supervise the work of all project personnel to ensure that each project meets the highest professional standards, follows the established quality assurance plan, and maintains the established budget and schedule
Review and understand Company and Department Quality Assurance and Quality Control guidelines to ensure each work product meets the highest professional standards and follows the established quality procedures
Review interim draft and final reports, design drawings, and computations prepared by environmental specialists, staff scientists and technicians for completeness and accuracy prior to every submittal
Review work performed by other departments and/or sub-consultants to insure satisfactory performance
Respond to regulatory agency comments and problems as quickly as possible

Qualifications
Bachelor's in Environmental Science or other natural resources-related field
7+ years of professional experience in the environmental science field
Experience with wetland delineations and federal, state and local permitting, in particular Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting and Section 401 Water Quality Certifications preferred
Experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation preferred
FHWA NEPA, or ability to complete NEPA certification within one year
Proficient with MS Office applications
Ability to travel and work in the field (outdoors)
Ability to work well and self-motivate in a collaborative team environment
Ability to work in variable conditions, including uneven ground and access to remote sites
Strong team player with effective internal & external communication skills

Purpose:
KIB's Urban Naturalist (UN) Program exists as a professional development opportunity for college students with an interest in pursuing future careers in an environmentally related field or industry. The UN Team performs a variety of outdoor work geared towards the improvement of environmental and social conditions within the city of Indianapolis, while also participating in weekly enrichment activities with the purpose of exposing the UN team members to a variety of different environmental careers. The Urban Naturalists function as one of KIB's primary boots-on-the-ground maintenance teams as well as helping accomplish cross-programmatic tasks.
Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities:
Field Work
Work as a member of a seven-person team of college students in maintaining multiple horticultural projects across the city, including high visibility native landscapes and green stormwater infrastructure, with the goal of naturalizing, preserving, and maintaining healthy urban ecosystems.
Water, weed, and pick up trash in stormwater planters and rain gardens to maintain functional green infrastructure.
Maintain and establish healthy native landscapes throughout Indianapolis by watering, weeding, and monitoring for invasive species.
Restore riparian habitat by removing invasive species from previously unmaintained areas as well as maintaining sites where previous restoration work has occurred. Maintenance will include monitoring as well as treatment of invasive species using a backpack sprayer.
Perform tree maintenance work on 6-18' tall trees, including structurally pruning and mulching, installing, and removing stakes and trunk guards, and collecting accurate monitoring data.
Assist in other KIB programs, including but not limited to; Lilly Global Day of Service, Great Indy Cleanups, and other corporate days of service.
Other duties as assigned.
Intra-Department Collaboration
Participate in collaborative professional development opportunities between the UN team and KIB's Youth Tree Team high school employees to perform a variety of maintenance tasks together while creating relationships and providing valuable college and career insight to KIB's high school employees.
Assist with intra-department or organization-wide efforts as needed. This may include helping to lead volunteers with tree planting, habitat restoration, or GreenSpace implementation projects.
Assist KIB's Community Forestry staff with unloading tree deliveries and perform mulch and tree drop offs as capacity allows.

Essential Functions

Overview

Responsibilities
General duties include preparation of environmental documentation under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements, conducting wetland and waterway delineations, preparation of “Waters” reports, preparation of waterway permits, assisting in the preparation of. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, preparation of wetland and/or stream mitigation plans, conducting mitigation site monitoring, conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, general environmental consulting, proposal support for development of new business and other duties as assigned.
Technical Duties:
Perform field data collection for environmental investigations and natural resource surveys
Collect and compile environmental data from samples of soil, water, and other materials for analysis
Collect and compile geographic information for project site(s) including, but not limited to, use of global positioning system (GPS) instruments
Preparation of maps depicting environmental data collected, including development of project-specific maps utilizing geographic information system (GIS) software
Analyze samples, surveys, and other information to identify and assess impacts to the natural and human environment and identify mechanisms to avoid, minimize or mitigate for impacts
Develop plans, technical reports and/or permit applications to document impacts to the natural or human environment
Coordinate regularly with applicable government agencies to identify natural and socio-economic resources potentially affected by assigned projects
Understand and maintain proficiency with environmental regulations applicable to the development of transportation and other civil works projects
Assist in the planning and execution of public participation and outreach for projects, including but not limited to preparation of legal notices, preparation and delivery of presentations to the general public, governmental officials, and businesses regarding environmental impacts

Client Coordination:
Maintain positive relationships with clients to assist in resolving project questions such as project scope, environmental procedures, and schedule
Assist in identifying new opportunities with existing and potential clients
Assist in development and writing of proposals for new business
Provide support for business development sales force
Quality Assurance:
Review and understand Company and Department Quality Assurance and Quality Control guidelines to ensure each work product meets the highest professional standards and follows the established quality procedures
Review interim draft and final reports, mapping, plans and computations for completeness and accuracy prior to every submittal to the Project Manager
As directed by the Project Manager, review work performed by other departments and/or sub-consultants to insure satisfactory performance
Respond to regulatory agency comments and problems as quickly as possible
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or other related field
2-4 years of relevant work experience in consulting or regulatory environment, in the environmental science field
Certified in FHWA/INDOT NEPA
Ability to work well and self-motivate in a collaborative team environment
Ability to work in variable conditions, including uneven ground and access to remote sites
Strong team player with effective internal & external communication skills
Proficient in MS Office applications
Experience with ARC GIS preferred
