Primary Responsibilities: The Environmental Health and Safety Manager provides leadership and direction in creating and maintaining a positive safety culture in the department. Analyzes injury incident trend data and evaluates department programs and practices to develop and implement “safe work” programs. Ensures appropriate training is available for staff to adhere to work practices and policies and comply with university, state, and federal workplace safety, health, and environmental requirements. Collaborate with and assist residential facilities supervisors in assessing hazards and formulating solutions, partnering with Environmental Safety, Sustainability, and Risk (ESSR) if necessary. The Director of the Department of Residential Facilities will supervise the Incumbent. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * A normal office environment includes keyboarding, drafting correspondence, planning/documentation, and making notes. Able to push, pull, lift, and carry objects up to 25 pounds. * Ability to travel around campus for meetings and monitor observations of work activities for building conditions. * Move and set up tables and chairs as part of the room set up for training sessions. * May be asked to assist with and/or support department-wide activities in the residence halls and other campus buildings, which may require walking between buildings and climbing stairs. * The position will require access to areas using ladders and/or scaffolding and on-site during inclement weather. * The position will be required to work outdoors, in confined spaces, in utility rooms, and at rooftop elevations to assess/inspect safety conditions. Essential Functions: * Provide environmental, health and safety direction and assistance to assure the safety and health of Hendrickson associates through Vision Zero * Lead the efforts to pursue/maintain partnership with OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) or Hendrickson's Global Safety Excellence Certification (GSX) Program. * Create and implement safety and environmental countermeasures to identified situations. * Lead the efforts to pursue/maintain certification to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems * Administer division and site EHS Procedures * Facilitate incident investigation process * Manage Industrial Hygiene issues * Conduct and document EHS training * Manage safety audits and follow-up * Assess the impact or current and new process on employees assuring employee involvement in safety improvement activities * Assist in Workers Compensation case management as required * Lead division and site security program * Participate on the Safety Excellence Team * Maintain key performance indicators as set by the Health and Safety Excellence Team. Education and Training * Bachelor's Degree required in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Industrial Engineering or similar required. * 5-7 years' experience with an emphasis on health and safety implementation in a manufacturing environment. Some environmental compliance experience is desired.
