The Plant Engineer is responsible for overseeing all engineering, project management, and maintenance activities within the plant. This role involves supervising a team of employees engaged in plant maintenance and engineering tasks, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective operation of plant systems and equipment in accordance with corporate, production, and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage engineering, project, and maintenance activities for the plant, ensuring all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Supervise employees through Supervisors and Managers, overseeing plant maintenance and engineering activities. Plan, coordinate, and direct the design, layout, installation, and maintenance of the building, support systems, and production equipment. Monitor progress and coach supervisors and managers to meet performance targets. Research and recommend improvements to plant facilities, utilities, processes, and equipment to reduce costs, enhance product quality, and improve efficiencies. Provide technical support to production departments by diagnosing issues and offering recommendations to improve equipment care and operating efficiency. Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety requirements by maintaining accurate records of maintenance work, equipment, engineering, and interactions with regulatory agencies. Monitor utility consumption and implement strategies to reduce excessive usage and associated costs. Collaborate with the Plant Manager to develop capital appropriation budgets and provide input on engineering, purchasing, and installation needs for capital projects. Participate in cross-functional teams to improve processes and assist other company facilities as needed. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory, safety, and environmental standards. Prepare routine and ad hoc reports on project status, costs, maintenance activities, downtime, and other relevant matters. Lead, motivate, and manage the performance of hourly and salaried team members, including coaching, training, discipline, and termination as required. Required Skills and Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (preferred) or equivalent experience and skills gained through work. Minimum of 7 years of experience in managing maintenance or engineering teams, ideally in the meat or food industry. In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to the construction, maintenance, and operation of manufacturing facilities and equipment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and similar documentation. Strong understanding of safety and environmental regulations, along with operational best practices. Proven ability to manage complex installation and modification projects, including major capital expenditures. Ability to supervise and guide others to meet established goals and objectives. Experience working in a manufacturing environment, handling temperature variations, and wearing appropriate PPE. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders and business partners. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of the organization. Superior critical thinking skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
