FM is currently seeking a Consultant Engineer II with technical industry experience from a production environment, preferably within the chemical industry. The ideal candidate would possess basic understanding of process engineering, plant operations, facilities, and maintenance, and experience with fire protection systems is a plus.
Workload would be varied across all industries that FM insures. Consultant Engineers at FM enjoy the challenges and weekly variety in working with clients across industries such as healthcare, education, distribution/logistics, a wide range of manufacturing, and more.
This position is based in greater Louisville, KY area (working remotely from a home office) and reporting to the FM Cleveland office.
Identify property hazards (such as fire, explosion, and natural catastrophe hazards) at insured client facilities and deliver practical solutions to minimize or eliminate the hazard.
Communicate key risks and priorities to support clients in making sound risk management decisions based on what matters most to their business.
Apply consistent risk assessment and risk mitigation guidance, based on use of FM Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets and company operating procedures, with an attention to technical detail.
Prepare technical engineering reports, with sound engineering-based judgements, decisions, and technical writing to document conclusions.
Collaborate with various departments such as Operations Engineering, Client Services, Account Management and Underwriting on risk assessment and risk mitigation strategies.
Develop long-lasting relationships with clients and act as a trusted advisor and consultant within your field.
Work from a home office, while managing time, meeting report delivery timelines, and working independently with minimal supervision.
Expected overnight travel once fully trained is 30% (up to 50-70 nights per year). Typical travel responsibilities will be concentrated in a 2 to 3-hour radius around your home office; however overnight travel may include 4 to 5-day visits to client locations in Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and upstate New York (Buffalo NY region).
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (varies engineering disciplines considered); A chemical engineering background is a plus.

What You Will Contribute to OHM Advisors
As a Site Design Project Engineer, you will lead civil engineering design efforts for diverse land development projects, primarily serving private sector clients. You will collaborate closely with Project Managers to develop and execute tailored scopes of services that align with client needs and objectives. Your role as a key decision-maker throughout the project lifecycle will involve guiding the process from conceptual design to construction, ensuring high-quality deliverables and successful project outcomes. Your expertise and leadership will be essential in fostering strong client relationships and driving innovative solutions in site design.
Your Responsibilities
Project Management:
Provide guidance to the PM regarding anticipated tasks and relative effort.
Achieve project success, adhering to work plans, schedules, and budgets.
Oversee design team and facilitate QA/QC.
Technical Expertise:
Planning and design of new construction and redevelopment sites.
Preparation of engineering plans, specifications, reports, studies, technical memoranda, and other project documentation.
Regulatory knowledge within the project's jurisdiction.
Familiarity with Zoning & Land Use Codes, Subdivision Regulations, and Design Standards
Stormwater management, quantity/quality controls. Understanding of Best Management Practices for design and construction.
Functional knowledge of sanitary sewer, water, power, gas, and telecom utilities.
Grading design for mass earthwork, roadways, parking lots, building pads, sidewalks, and other site improvements. Understanding of ADA & PROWAG design requirements.
Competency in Land Surveying practices. Ability to interpret plats, deeds, easements, legal descriptions, etc.
Expertise with topographic models of existing and proposed conditions.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil3D, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling programs, AutoTurn and similar civil engineering design software.
Teamwork and Leadership:
Work collaboratively with team of internal staff, external consultants, and regulatory authorities.
Mentor staff and contribute to organizational growth.
Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Requirements
Bachelor's or better in Civil Engineering or related field.
5-10 years of experience in Site Design, Civil Engineering, or Land Development.
Kentucky PE license is required.
Design experience for private development projects in residential, commercial, or industrial markets.
Experience preparing construction documents including plan drawings, specifications, bid documents, and cost opinions.
Ability to engage with clients, internal staff, contractors, and community officials.
Experience with state agencies and/or DOT specifications.

**Roles and Responsibilities**
In this role, you will:
- Available to quickly respond and resolve critical service outages severely impacting consumers

- Provide impact assessment and mitigation plan for changes going into the production environment
