Application Engineer
Engineer Job 40 miles from Festus
The sales application engineer is a big resource for the sales engineers and our customers. The primary role of the application engineer is to work with the sales engineering team to develop solutions for MMCC customers. The solution is usually consisting of acquiring the necessary data and files, developing a recommended layout for the customer's parts and determining a first pass on the pricing using models and spreadsheets. While the sales engineer has ultimate responsibility for the quote and its solution, we depend on the application engineer to put the pieces together and have an error free proposal to review with the sales engineer before sending. We rely on the experience of the application engineer to solve problems, especially when MMCC knows more about the process than the customer. Communication is the key, whether with the sales engineer, mechanical and electrical engineering or with the customer.
All aspects of quote development including:
o Work with the Sales engineer to determine what the customer needs are and what we should recommend based on our experience with similar applications
o Work with the Sales Engineer to get all the needed information including math data, part prints, customer part info and process info
o Work with the Sales Engineer to determine what other info is required to work toward a solution (ie. big program with not much lead-time, or multiple units that customer will want discounts for duplicates)
o Setup appropriate files on the server to store all the compiled info into a quote package
o On complex solutions the application engineer is working with the customer, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to determine if we are approaching the solution properly.
o On less sophisticated systems the application engineer will always have “ears and eyes out” looking to determine the best way and the most cost-effective way to process the parts.
o With new customers the situation will arise where the customer will know almost nothing about the best way to process the parts. The application engineer will use their knowledge and experience to help guide the customer toward a workable solution. Document each key decision to help remind customers how the solution was arrived at after many meetings.
o Communicating with sales engineers on what is working/not working and communicating with the customers what is working or not working. Any customer's feedback on price and lead-time needs to be passed along to the sales engineer.
Keep quote pricing models up to date, and help sales engineers keep quotes updated
Communicates with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering on new jobs to determine if initial solution will be followed, or re-designed. Seeks feedback in each case so that (s)he gets better.
Assists in creating info for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to start the job design
Assist in confirming large value items with long lead times on jobs are ordered soon after job creation
Participate in Design reviews. Be prepared to run the design review if Mechanical Engineering needs help.
Assist to maintain communication with customer on job(s) status
Assist with scheduling needed equipment and component parts/weld wire/gages/people to run equipment
Contributes to process improvement within and outside of the sales group.
5S-Keeps a clean, organized work area while making the effort to see that things are returned to their desired area.
