The successful candidate will have deep technical capabilities in concept development, design, prototyping, testing, and intellectual property generation. Responsibilities: · Lead and manage internal and external mechanical engineering resources in medical device development projects with minimal direction as needed. · Generate Project Plans and coordinate activities with product development teams, prioritize tasks and provide accurate project scheduling. · Work with external industrial design teams and OEM manufacturers to develop electromechanical systems and sub-systems. · Responsible for designing, building, and testing new concepts and iterating through the design process. · Develop System Architectures through modeling, simulation, and empirical testing to design, develop, debug and test systems to meet required performance, focus on pneumatic systems with arrays of sensors and actuators. · Perform written calculations and analytical modeling / analysis of new technologies in support of achieving product performance requirements. · Perform mechanical analysis including Statics and Dynamics, Finite Element Modeling, and Material Properties · Perform risk analyses using FMEA and fault tree methods. Work with other engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, and Software) to develop, implement, and verify system solutions for Class 3 medical devices (Safety critical). · Evaluate product performance on an on-going basis and initiate and evaluate required changes to the design to improve and optimize performance. · Interfaces with internal and external clinicians, physicians and thought leaders to create innovative products and features. · Ensure adherence to product specifications, industry standards, and quality and regulatory procedures and requirements. · Maintain accurate documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, and processes · Provide engineering and technical support of products introduced into both the domestic and international markets as well as physician in-service programs. · Oversee outside vendors and consultants as required. There will be direct contribution from prototype to verification builds and tests within a regulated medical device development environment. As the Manufacturing Engineer III you will provide technical support for all Test Strip Manufacturing operations regarding various processes and assembly issues. You will contribute to or lead development, design and the validation of existing and start up manufacturing equipment or processes as well as work with Advanced Manufacturing providing concurrent engineering and process for development for smooth transfer of new products/processes into manufacturing. Design fixtures and necessary tooling for processes or modifications to equipment as needed. This includes researching and finalizing specifications for capital equipment as well as supplier quote comparison and ROI analysis. Manage activities for continuous improvement to reduce product cost and cycle times. Create new manufacturing documentation and updating/enhancing existing documentation which conform to Quality System Regulations (QSR's) ISO Standards. Review and implementation of lean manufacturing techniques. Investigation of returned items from the field to determine root cause and implementing corrective/preventative actions to prevent reoccurrence. Qualifications/Skills and Competencies: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, (Solidworks and/or AutoCAD programs. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of FDA QSR's and ISO regulations is helpful. Education/Experience: B.S in Mechanical Engineering / Biomedical / Electromechanical Engineering with 5-10 years of experience in the High Volume manufacturing field (ideally biomedical related) Must have experience maintaining and troubleshooting complex high volume automated manufacturing equipment.
