Scrubs for cases according to established sterile procedures, dons sterile gown and gloves, and assists the surgeons with the same. In doing so, sets-up back table and mayo stand, counts all necessary items according to procedure, checks case supplies, and prepares supplies/equipment utilizing preference cards to assemble all necessary supplies/equipment before patient arrives in room. Displays competency (via leveling program guidelines) in less than 5 services. Services include General, Plastics, Ortho, Podiatry, Gyne, GU, Eye, ENT, and Oral Surgery. Observes sterile technique of all personnel, assists in draping, passes instruments, sponges, sutures, and other sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assistants during procedures, holds retraction devices, and acts to anticipate and respond to surgeons needs during course of surgery. Receives surgical specimens, places in same preservative solutions, and notifies circulating nurse of source of material. Counts sponges, needles, and instruments used during surgery before closing, and assists with sterile dressing of operative site following closing. Assists with circulating duties under the direct supervision of registered nurse. Cleans operating room and disposes of used case carts and instruments according to established procedures. Assists in returning supplies and equipment to proper storage; separates, cleans, and prepares instruments as necessary, and so forth. Functions as a clinical resource person to various department personnel, new employees, and student technologists. Assist by precepting students and new employees. Attends mandatory department meetings. Keeps current regarding developments in surgical equipment, trends and techniques, through appropriate in-service programs. Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with department and outside agencies. Supports and is involved in the ASCs continuous quality improvement efforts designed to increase patient outcomes, increase patient satisfaction, and improve the utilization of the ASCs human, capital, and physical resources. Qualifications This is a multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center. Surgical Techs with a specialty are expected to cross-train to become multi-specialty.
