The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Minnesota Omnibus Labor and Industry Policy Bill Article 7 Section 2 and the Illinois Salary Transparency amendment to the Equal Pay Act of 2003. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, skills, prior work experience, competencies, and geographic work location. The total annual compensation package may consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate, after a qualifying period, in our performance and discretionary incentive bonus program(s).

Role Definition
The Electrical Engineer role at Keen reports to the Automation and Electrical team lead and works closely with project delivery teams to execute assigned projects. An Electrical Engineer uses business acumen to understand project requirements and translate those into technical designs, specifications, and scope of work used for guiding the work of subcontractors. They can produce drawings, hardware specifications, budgets, installation plans, and schedules for complex construction projects. A successful Electrical Engineer will showcase their range of communication skills; being able to communicate with client business leaders, utility providers, technical peers, installation contractors and plant operations and maintenance resources.This role profile is subject to change at any time.
What you'll do:
* Put safety first, whether in the design of systems or installation of projects.
* Work with cross functional project teams to define project scope, develop designs, implement solutions, and commission complete systems.
* Work across electrical and automation functions to develop solutions with assigned project teams.
* Work with internal and external resources to model power systems in SKM software delivering Arc Flash analysis to customers.
* Engage client operation's teams to develop plans for commissioning and deliver training.
* Develop and sustain broad electrical and controls industry knowledge and capability allowing Keen to deliver on its 'Drive Innovation' promise.
PROTECT PEOPLE
* Consider the safety of Keen Project Solutions construction personnel, the customer, operators, subcontractors, and the general public when designing any project outlined by the company, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, FMSA and other applicable regulatory requirements for all work processes.
* Research and ensure incorporation of applicable federal, state, and municipal codes, permits, and standards relying upon proper expertise and resources internally and externally.
* Perform job site observations and report deficiencies, non-conformance, safety issues, quality control issues, and opportunities for improvement to the senior-most project manager on an assigned project.
* Comply with risk management programs applicable to assigned projects, including contracts, insurance, bonding, and any special owner or regulatory requirements. Identify areas of risk, investigate, and propose solutions.
BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
* Support the efforts of all parties involved in the project, including the architects, consultants, contractors, trade contractors, and directly hired tradespersons.
* Demonstrate the ability to effectively establish and contribute to internal and external design management and in-house design.
* Support Owner Design Coordination Meetings, fostering collaboration with owners, designers, and trade partners to build a team atmosphere, resolve conflicts early, and track progress. Ensure actions are logged. Utilize on-line collaboration tools and web meetings to coordinate and conduct business efficiently.
* Effectively support projects, resolve design issues, answer questions, solve production problems, and make sure that final plans are accurate.
* Provide basic support for all other departments as needed, along with other assigned duties.
FOCUS ON END GOALS
* Properly prepare and execute design services to meet customers' expectations for clarity, timeliness, quality, completeness, and efficiency.
* Communicate effectively to ensure all team members and customers are well informed throughout the design process, including effective use of face-to-face meetings, web and phone conferences, collaborative software, design meetings and events, and other common channels of communication.
* Support Coordination in a buyout, including specification, selection, and contracting of vendors, suppliers, and technicians.
* Specify and Procure equipment and/or hardware in accordance with site layout, specifications, safety measures, schematic design, and the production process.
* Analyze equipment and processes to achieve continuous improvement and ensure process performance requirements are met and sustained.
* Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, scope development, specification and technical writing, and estimating.
DRIVE INNOVATION
* Implement electrical designs, monitor and evaluate installation effectiveness, make necessary modifications required to be cost-effective, keep within a given budget, and commission the system.
* Critique designs for safety, constructability, failure modes, customer usage, and functionality.
* Analyze problems through data analysis to create more robust designs to reduce cost and complexity of installations while reducing operational risk for our customers.
* Work closely with other project partners, professionals such as scientists, and other engineers on development and research projects.
* Integrate new technology or environmentally friendly practices into existing processes.
Position Requirements
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
* 2 or 4-year degree from college or technical school in electrical engineering or electrical technology; years of exceptional experience in electrical design and installation or those with a willingness to obtain desired education is also encouraged to apply.
* Working knowledge of basic computer programs like Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and on-line collaboration tools. Proficient in Autodesk/Plant Design Suite products like AutoCAD is desired, with knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, etc., beneficial.
* Working knowledge of Power Systems Studies and design for mitigating arc flash hazards is required, and experience with electrical modeling software such as SKM or ETAP is desired.
* Experience specifying hardware and materials for industrial installations is preferred.
* 5+ years work experience in a similar position preferred.
* Professional engineering license or a willingness to obtain one
* Travel up to 20% or as needed, by air and ground.
