High school diploma or equivalent, three years in a related field.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Driver's license (current, unrestricted, and free of moving violations)
Must be able to meet company's employment requirements, which includes passing a drug screen, criminal background check, and MVR, if driving for the company
Physical Requirements: Ability to repetitively lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 pounds, frequent bending, stooping, standing 8-10 hours per day.

Medium Work -- The U.S. Department of Labor defines Medium work as exerting 20 - 50 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and / or 10 - 25 pounds of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and / or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1 Travels to work area.
Dons the appropriate personal protective equipment, descends in the elevator, and walks to the jeep approximately 300 yards.
Wears hardhat with lamp attached while underground, weight is 4 pounds. Wears belt with rescuer, lamp battery, and hand tools (such as volt meter, amp meter, screw driver, channel locks, wire strippers, crimpers, and needle nose pliers) weight approximately 20 pounds. May travel 1 hour to 4 hours by jeep per shift.
While calibrating carbon monoxide monitors and methane monitors may walk more than 3 hours / shift, or up to 5 miles.
2 Sets up power for sections and performs lockout for load center moves or problems.
At a time when the load center is moved or there is a problem on a section, the Electrician will pull the plug for the load center and lockout the power. When the load center is relocated or the section problem corrected, the Electrician is responsible to re-establish power to the area. The Electrician is responsible for checking vacuum breakers and installing section block lights.
3 Calibrates and repairs carbon monoxide monitors and methane monitors.
Carbon monoxide monitors are located every 1,000 feet along the belt line. The Electrician is responsible for inspecting, calibrating using a calibration kit and gas tank and repairing these monitors monthly. 4 Performs weekly maintenance of load center, distribution box and vacuums.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Electrician may walk for more than 3 hours out of a day when calibrating monitors approximately 5 days / month.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS: Must wear personal protective equipment to include: hard hat, safety glasses, metatarsal boots, ear muffs (hearing protection), and respirator. Must also wear a battery operated cap lamp. In case of an emergency will don a PWSCSR (Person Wearable Self-Contained Self Rescuer) to be worn during walk to air shaft and out of the mine. As required by law, the Electrician must walk from the section to the main escapeway twice per year. This distance ranges from 2,000 to 12,000 feet.
The Electrician works underground at a depth of 400 - 800 feet. Temperatures vary. When working near the face the temperature is fairly constant approximately 55o to 60o. While working away from the face, the Electrician would encounter temperatures that would vary depending on above-ground conditions. Near the face and on the beltline there may be wet conditions.
COGNITIVE SKILLS REQUIRED: The Electrician must possess adequate vision, hearing and speech to operate equipment in low light and to safely communicate with co-workers around moving machinery.

Primary Responsibilities

4. Troubleshoot motors, motor control circuits, across the line starters, reduce voltage starters (auto transformer, resister), reversing starters, electrical systems in hazardous locations, battery banks and battery chargers.
5. Test, maintain, and repair all emergency electrical equipment.
6. Responds to emergency trouble calls during and after regular working hours as required by supervisory personnel. Adjusts schedule as needed to accomplish tasks.
7. Inspects equipment and tools to ensure they are safe and in good working order. Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisory personnel.
8. Interpret plans, sketches, wiring diagrams, and specifications; identify all electrical terms and symbols.
9. Assist with switchgear and high voltage maintenance.
