Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $114,520 - $212,680.
For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $99,400 - $184,600.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Writing Consultant will support the Writing Studio by providing consultation services to students and will support the studio coordinator by maintaining careful records of student interactions. Duties include one-on-one consultation services; supervising/checking in with independently working students; scheduling new/follow-up appointments with students; completing/verifying records of daily student interactions; developing/delivering studio workshops; and other tasks as assigned.
Work Schedule
Wage employees are eligible to work a maximum of 1,500 hours from May-April each year. Part-time hourly position without state benefits and is at-will. Actual work schedules/hours will be dependent upon college needs. This position is an in-person position primarily on the Downtown Campus ( DTC ) and possibly Parham Road Campus( PRC ); weekday and one evening per week is required, 10-15 hours per week.

Reports news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events
Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories
Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
Reviews and evaluates notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and details
Determines a story's emphasis, length and format, and organizes material accordingly
Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
Pitches stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community

Requirements & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
Fluency in English
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to
ad lib
when required
Minimum two years' experience in news reporting (Depending on market size)
Superior on-air presence
Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Valid driver's license with a good driving record
Flexibility to work any shift
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
