The Data Scientist will report directly to the Executive Director of Informatics. In this role, the successful candidate needs to be a data storyteller, using all data sources to identify and track early trends. SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:

As a leader of the Discovery Informatics group, this position will be accountable for delivering mission-critical solutions supporting Exelixis' early-stage discovery efforts. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in supporting the design, implementation, and growth of our informatics infrastructure used by Discovery Research. The candidate will efficiently assess current capabilities to identify gaps, propose solutions, and implement a carefully considered strategy for sustained growth. This position will also be responsible for managing a team of internal & external informatics experts working across multiple programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Lead the planning and execution of business objectives across various groups in support of early-stage drug discovery, providing perspective of IT, and enabling information to be shared among functional groups

* In coordination with Discovery Research, identify suitable commercial systems to complement current applications and evaluate such systems to determine the most suitable one for efficient data integration

* Collaborate with Discovery Research scientists, programmers, and project leaders to deploy, support, and maintain customized reporting tools

* Develop and promote best practices for scientific data capture, integration, and analysis
