This position serves as the department's Designated Privacy Officer. This position oversees all department training and quality assurance activities. This position is responsible for ensuring the proper performance of all systems and equipment used by the department, and for managing the maintenance and data contracts for cardiac monitors, CPR machines, communication equipment, and patient care reporting software. This position is designated by the county administrator to oversee all private ambulance services operating in the county. In addition, this position may respond to emergency calls and must maintain certifications to provide medical assistance at a paramedic level. It serves as a back-up to the Director when needed. Examples of Duties JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Note: The list below is not comprehensive; this job is also responsible for other duties as assigned. 1. Compliance - This position is responsible for ensuring the overall operations of the department are compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations. The incumbent must review and develop all policies, procedures, training programs, quality assurance programs, and contracts relating to the department to ensure that all meet the standards set forth by local, state, and federal regulations. 2. Equipment Maintenance - This position is responsible for the performance of all equipment and electronic systems used by the department. The incumbent will troubleshoot when problems occur, and either make the repair or obtain the necessary resources to minimize down-time of all patient care equipment and vehicles. Further, the incumbent must ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations on all equipment and systems used by the department. 3. Oversite - This position is responsible for oversite of the county ambulance franchise system. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing new and renewal applications from private ambulance providers wishing to provide ambulance services in the county and submitting them to county council for approval. Responsibilities include ambulance inspections, patient care audits, resolving citizen complaints, and any other duties assigned by the county administrator related to any ambulance operating in the county. 4. Procurement - The incumbent will provide analysis, develop specifications, bid packages, write RFP's when new equipment or vehicles must be leased or purchased, and provide informed recommendations for procurement. 5. Training - The incumbent will train all employees on various topics related to compliance with regulations, patient privacy practices, healthcare electronics, radio communication systems, and the use of various other equipment when needed to ensure proper and safe operation by all. 6. Patient Care - This position may serve as a paramedic on the road and will be capable of functioning as a back-up to the Director, Shift Supervisor, or Crew Chief positions when needed. The incumbent operates with limited supervision, informing the management team rather than needing approvals. The major challenge of the job is the diverse nature of the position and maintaining currency of regulations. PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB: This job has specific physical requirements such as lifting, driving, ability to travel, etc. Able to assist in the lifting/movement of patients up to 500 pounds. Lift equipment up to 100 pounds. Stooping and lifting when on the road. Ability to drive multiple types of apparatus. Ability to travel to obtain training, certifications, and perform equipment inspections. May require attendance at local, state, and national conferences or seminars from time to time.
