Position Purpose
Provide assistance in all food functions as directed/instructed and in accordance with established food policies and procedures.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
The dietary aide works with the facility's Dietitian/Director of Food Services as necessary and implements recommended changes as required. Performs other duties, as assigned.
Ensures that food procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.
The dietary aide assists with the service and delivery of food trays to designated areas, cleaning of the kitchen per established protocols, and proper washing and cleaning of food utensils and dishes.
Prepares and delivers snacks as directed.
Assigned Tasks
Serves meals in accordance to established portion control procedures.
Serves meals that are appetizing and palatable in appearance.
Serves meals as necessary and on a timely basis.
Assists in daily cleaning duties as assigned to include work tables, meat blocks, and refrigerators/freezers in accordance to established policies and procedures.
Sweep and mops floors as directed.
Washes and cleans utensils, dishes and cooking items according to established policies and procedures.
Carries out garbage and keeps the work area clean, dry and free of hazards.
Sets up meal trays, food carts, dining room, etc., as instructed.
Collects and distributes menus as instructed.
Assists in checking dietary trays before distribution and delivering food carts to designated areas.
Removes food carts, food trays from dining rooms to dishwashing area for cleaning.
Additional Tasks
Treats all residents with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents' rights.
Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents and themselves.
Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to HR or compliance officer.
Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents from abuse, and cooperates with all investigations.
Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility's emergency plan.
Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.
Maintains food storage areas in a clean and properly arranged manner at all times.
Ensures the department, necessary equipment and supplies are clean and maintained in a safe manner.
Assists in inventorying and storing in-coming food, supplies, etc., as necessary.
Ensures food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.

Assist in washing and sanitizing dishes.

Ensure that accurate serving portions and food items are on each tray before loading to the food cart.
Ensure that appropriate serving utensils are used; ensure that temperatures are within standards (all temperatures are logged and reviewed prior to tray-line).
During tray line, ensure that the trays are garnished, neatly arranged, silverware, cups, and dishes are clean and plate covers are dry.
After tray-line, check and record excess/shortage preparation, discuss with the supervisor.
Qualifications
Food Handler's permit/ServeSafe certification as per state requirements.
Must have the ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions in English.

The dietary aid is expected to serve meals in a respectful and gracious manner, ensuring the dignity and nutritional needs of residents are always met. The dietary aid also assists with organizing and putting away weekly orders and works to keep the kitchen and dining areas organized and clean.
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a current Food Handler's Permit and be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, supervisors, and co-workers. The ability to perform tasks with grace and a positive attitude, even when the tasks are unpleasant, is essential. The dietary aid must be willing to work with the elderly and work cooperatively with supervisors and fellow team members. Additionally, candidates must provide proof of a recent TB test or be willing to obtain one within two weeks of hire.
Universal Precautions: Exposure to blood and bodily fluids is likely.
Physical Requirements: The position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.

POSITION ENVIRONMENT
This position requires the ability to work under time pressures, and the ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals. Physical demands include moving boxes, light equipment and supplies, and operating kitchen equipment. Standing for long periods of time (up to 2-4 hours per day) may be required. Lifting, up to twenty-five pounds, on a regular basis is required. Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to fifty pounds is also required. Requires hearing to normal range and corrected vision. The kitchen aid facilitates and participates in menu planning on behalf of Covington Senior Living. This position is an exempt position under the FLSA and does require overtime in order to accomplish those duties outlined and to complete projects. The Dietary Cook is responsible for assisting in the preparation of meals for residents and providing support to those who need help with their meals. Working closely with the Dietary Manager, the cook ensures that meals are prepared according to the approved menu, in a safe and sanitary manner. In addition to food preparation, the cook is responsible for maintaining kitchen cleanliness, assisting with kitchen maintenance, and setting up and taking down dining areas. The cook will prepare all meals as directed by the Dining Services Coordinator, adhering to sanitation and safety standards. This includes ensuring kitchen cleanliness and safety, following departmental procedures, and reporting any health concerns to the Resident Care Coordinator or Nurse. The cook is expected to maintain confidentiality regarding resident information and comply with community standards for appearance, hygiene, and health. Meals should be served in a respectful and dignified manner to meet the nutritional needs of residents. Additionally, the cook will assist with organizing and putting away weekly food orders, and will ensure that both the kitchen and dining areas are maintained to meet or exceed the Dietary Manager's specifications and state regulations.
Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed, and the cook will be expected to perform all tasks with a positive attitude, delivering an excellent service experience. The ideal candidate should possess a current Food Handler's Permit, demonstrate effective communication skills with residents, families, and co-workers, and be willing to work with the elderly. A recent TB test must be provided or obtained within two weeks of hire.
