D.C. Hunger Solutions (DCHS) seeks a highly motivated and skilled individual to join its staff as a SNAP & WIC Outreach Associate. Through advocacy, research, community outreach, and program monitoring, the SNAP/WIC Outreach Associate will serve as the central link for DCHS, fostering meaningful relationships with District residents, community partners, and organizations. The role includes supporting service providers, engaging and equipping volunteers with knowledge on SNAP and WIC, and assisting with volunteer management. The ideal candidate will be committed to addressing hunger and poverty in the District of Columbia with a strong focus on collaboration, relationship-building, and community engagement through outreach and partnership efforts.
This position reports directly to the Director of DC Hunger Solutions and works closely with the Anti-Hunger Program Associate - SNAP. While DCHS operates in a fully remote environment, this position requires travel to meetings and outreach events.
Organizational Background
The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) works to improve the nutrition, health, and well-being of people struggling against poverty-related hunger in the United States through advocacy, partnerships, and by advancing bold and equitable policy solutions. To attain this mission, FRAC engages in research, policy analysis and advocacy, coalition-building, outreach, technical assistance and training, and an array of communications strategies. In partnership with hundreds of national, state, and local nonprofit organizations, public agencies, corporations, and labor organizations, FRAC addresses hunger and food insecurity, and poverty as their root cause.
Founded in 2002, D.C. Hunger Solutions is a separately staffed and budgeted initiative of FRAC, seeking to end hunger in the nation's capital. By leveraging substantial available federal dollars and improving D.C.'s operations of federal and local nutrition programs, D.C. Hunger Solutions work has helped to feed tens of thousands of District residents struggling with hunger and has increased access to healthy, affordable food. D.C. Responsibilities
· Manage outreach for the Special Supplement Nutrition Program for Women Infant Children (WIC) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for DC residents to increase participation.
· Mobilize community members to participate in programs, services, and advocacy efforts that align with their needs and interests.
· Coordinate and participate in SNAP/WIC outreach events with the DC Hunger Solutions staff, partners, and public agencies interacting with diverse groups, understanding their concerns and providing information about available services.
· Develop and distribute outreach materials such as flyers, brochures, newsletters, and social media content to inform the community about programs and services.
· Train SNAP/WIC outreach volunteers.
· Educate SNAP/WIC customers in expanded SNAP/WIC programs (eWIC/SNAP).
· Utilize social media to promote SNAP/WIC outreach.
· Assist in working to increase participation in SNAP/WIC in the District of Columbia.
· Collaborate with existing partner agencies- including community and faith-based organizations as well as local social service agencies.
· Identify and resolve barriers to outreach efforts, such as low participation or logistical challenges, by working with community members and stakeholders to find solutions.
· Record and track the results of outreach activities.
· Conduct community needs assessments to identify gaps in services and tailor outreach efforts to address those needs.
· Analyze data and trends to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach strategies and recommend improvements.
· Assist in research projects documenting the use of federal nutrition programs.â¯
· Assist in the preparation of development proposals and reports.
Skills and Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
· Commitment to working for social justice; background in anti-poverty work preferred.
· Strong oral, written and organizational skills. Comfortable delivering presentations, conducting workshops, and representing the organization at community events
· Ability to reach out effectively to low-income families and community-based organizations eligible for program benefits.
· Good conceptual, strategic thinking and creative skills.
· In-depth understanding of community dynamics with experience in organizing and mobilizing community members to participate in programs and initiatives.
· Excellent organizational skills to coordinate outreach events, manage volunteer activities, and oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously.

· Relationship-Building Expertise with demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with community residents, organizations, and stakeholders to support outreach efforts.

· Proficiency in using social media platforms, online communication tools, and digital outreach methods to expand program reach and engagement.

Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $59,000 - $67,000. Generous leave, health and other benefits. This position is part of a union and is covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

As a Nutrition Assistant, you will be responsible for menu delivery and assisting patients with their meal selections based on their approved dietary orders. This includes verifying and entering orders into our dietary menu system and maintaining communication from patient care units and patients to nutrition and dietetics to ensure meal delivery accuracy.
A caregiver in this position works days, 6:30am - 3:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
* Deliver and pick up menus from patients and units.
* Explain the meal selection process to new patients and assist patients with menu selections.
* Obtain patient preferences, dislikes and other information to ensure quality food delivery to patients.
* Verify meal selections, enter the appropriate information into a handheld system, review entries and follow-up with patients if menu selections appear incomplete or insufficient.
* Update patient lists to verify meal selections or diet order changes.
* Check trays for accuracy prior to meals being delivered to patients.
* Run tray tickets for meal service, compare diet lists with tray tickets to ensure all patients receive their designated tray, adjust tray tickets, note changes, and verify with a Registered Dietitian if necessary.
* Provide excellent service to others by monitoring computer messages, following through on all requests, notifying the appropriate caregivers, answering the phone, following up on messages and taking action to remedy complaints.
* Perform various clerical duties, run lists and worksheets and distribute to staff, and assist with inventory and storage of menus and other items.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

As a Nutrition Assistant, you will be responsible for menu delivery and assisting patients with their meal selections based on their approved dietary orders. This includes verifying and entering orders into our dietary menu system and maintaining communication from patient care units and patients to nutrition and dietetics to ensure meal delivery accuracy.
**A caregiver in this position works days, 6:30am - 3:00pm.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Deliver and pick up menus from patients and units.
+ Explain the meal selection process to new patients and assist patients with menu selections.
+ Obtain patient preferences, dislikes and other information to ensure quality food delivery to patients.
+ Verify meal selections, enter the appropriate information into a handheld system, review entries and follow-up with patients if menu selections appear incomplete or insufficient.
+ Update patient lists to verify meal selections or diet order changes.
+ Check trays for accuracy prior to meals being delivered to patients.
+ Run tray tickets for meal service, compare diet lists with tray tickets to ensure all patients receive their designated tray, adjust tray tickets, note changes, and verify with a Registered Dietitian if necessary.
+ Provide excellent service to others by monitoring computer messages, following through on all requests, notifying the appropriate caregivers, answering the phone, following up on messages and taking action to remedy complaints.
+ Perform various clerical duties, run lists and worksheets and distribute to staff, and assist with inventory and storage of menus and other items.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Ability to understand dietary terms and information.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Six months of dietary experience.
