Bescast is looking for an experienced Tool and Die Maker / Die Repair to support our manufacturing operations by building, modifying, and repairing molds, machining fixtures, and inspection tools. This role is critical to maintaining quality and efficiency in production.
Position Overview
Set up milling fixtures and tooling according to specifications
Build, modify, and repair molds, machining fixtures, and manufacturing aids
Troubleshoot tooling and wax injection mold issues
Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency
Work directly with Supervisors, Engineers, Programmers, and Inspection personnel
Ensure all tooling meets customer requirements and industry standards
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
Qualifications
Journeyman Tool & Die Maker Certification (apprenticeship completion required)
Proficiency in Bridgeport mills, manual lathes, and surface grinders
Ability to set up and run a 3-Axis CNC Mill
Strong knowledge of machining practices and GD&T principles
Experience using micrometers, calipers, and other precision inspection tools
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively
Must be available for overtime and weekends when necessary

Ability to troubleshoot dies, handle press calls, respond to issues, troubleshoot & diagnose while on the press.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
To build or repair all types, sizes and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools & dies. Assemble and tryout complex tools and dies on manufacturing equipment. Read and interpret blueprints to repair and make new components. Work from verbal or written instructions. Self-motivated to work on projects alone or direct others to complete tasks. Train apprentice in tool and die best practices. Setup and operation of machine shop tools. Some knowledge of CNC helpful but not required. Understands the proper use of materials, tolerances, cutting tools, coolants and feeds and speeds. Welding repair and heat treatment of different materials including tool steels. Use precision measuring and gaging tools to perform required inspection. Tear down, repair and reassemble tooling in the press and on the bench. Able to troubleshoot transfer and progressive dies for repair, die improvements and part quality improvements. Able to obtain a forklift operator's license through the company's training program. Operate overhead crane safely while opening and turning large dies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
DOL Apprenticeship or Journeyman Card or 8 years of documented experience. May consider an apprenticeship with less experience as we do offer a local program that is DOL certified. Preferring Candidates experienced with Progressive & Transfer Dies and Heavy Stamping experience with 500 Ton Presses and up. Presses onsite: include 2x 500-ton progressive, 1x 800-ton progressive, 1x 1,000-ton transfer & 2x 1,600-ton transfer. Ability to troubleshoot dies, handle press calls, respond to issues, troubleshoot & diagnose while on the press. Strong background in TIG (Tungsten) Welding.

Job Duties:
Troubleshooting of die issues, changing broken/worn tooling, preventative maintenance in the press and on the bench, completing job setups on transfer and progressive dies.
Set up and operate all tool room equipment, such as Mills, Grinders, and Lathes to machine parts.
Assist production with problem-solving on tooling issues.
Works from blueprints and sketches to create or modify tools and dies.

Working Conditions:
Plant production is a precision stamping environment; working in and out of presses with tooling.
Job requires standing and walking up to 100% of work time.
Job requires lifting up to 70 lbs to include; pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and some stooping.
Responsibilities, Skills & Knowledge Requirements:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, reference material, diagrams, or other manufacturer’s material related to the products to be machined. Must have good shop mathematics knowledge.
Must be able to set up and operate all tool room equipment and be familiar with machinery tools such as lathes, grinders, milling machines. CNC Mill and EDM Wire Machining experience is preferred. Must be able to operate a hoist, and cranes.
Able to machine a product within correct tolerances and dimensions utilizing tooling equipment and proper procedures.
Must be able to load and feed steel and material into dies.
Knowledge in adjusting steel/material alignment in dies and performing re-set ups and die changeovers.
Proper use of O.D. & I.D. micrometers, calipers, height gages, thread gages, and dial indicators.

As a Tool and Die Maker, you will be responsible for designing, crafting, and maintaining precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gages used in the manufacturing process. Your expertise will contribute to the production of high-quality components, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in our manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret engineering drawings/blueprints and specifications to create precision tools and dies.
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to fabricate components.
Diagnose, correct, inspect, and test completed tools, dies, or fixtures for conformance to specifications.
Troubleshoot and repair tools and dies to maintain optimal functionality.
Collaborate with engineers and other team members to provide input on design improvements and modifications.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
Stay updated on industry Trends, Materials, and technologies to enhance skills and knowledge.
Other jobs as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
Completion of a 2-year machine trade school in Tool and Die or equivalent.
Proven experience as a Tool and Die Maker or in a similar role
Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
Skilled in operating various machine tools and precision measuring instruments.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in craftsmanship.
Problem-solving ability to troubleshoot and repair tools and dies.
Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
This job may require lifting various weights, standing for various lengths of time, and stooping and bending occasionally.

Tool and Die Maker – Grade III
Department: Tooling
Summary:
Employee is responsible for all repair activities as assigned by Tooling Manager or Tool Room Shift Leader.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Inventory of punches and other expendables.
Layout dies, fixtures and parts.
Designing and building of fixtures and small dies.
Must be able to read part prints.
Teaching and/or instructing toolmakers with lower classifications the following: techniques, methods of operating equipment.
Train and manage apprentices.
Tryout dies and assist in securing PPAP approval.
Tig weld trim steels and heat treat tool steels if necessary.
Estimate and quote hours and costs.
Run all tool-room equipment including mill, lathe, grinder, surface grinder, saw drill press and Mig/Tig welders as necessary.
Trouble shoot sheet metal dies in the presses as well as in the tool room.
Use layout tools and equipment, ie: height gages, Jo-Blocks, indicators, micrometers and calipers.
Clean up assigned work areas including your work bench.
Complete all documents such as job cards, p.m. log book, requisitions, etc.
Operate cranes for trucks and lift trucks to move dies.
Inform Inspection at end of each shift or at the end of the job about any excess parts (scrap/questionable) or raw material at the press or machine so it can be disposed of in the proper manner.
Observes and complies with all company, federal and state safety and environmental policies and practices.
Develops strong working knowledge of all relevant quality policies, procedures, and work instructions associated with the successful performance on this job.
Maintains a clean, orderly and safe personal work area and shared facility space.
