General Description: The Tool and Die Maker is to craft dies and metal tools. They will be required to interpret design schematics, cut and shape dies, and assemble to completed parts. The Tool and Die Maker will be responsible for testing the performance of the completed product. The Tool and Die Maker should have in-depth knowledge of metalwork and engineering, a good eye for detail, and the ability to visualize structural components. They should be able to translate ideas into expertly crafted metal forms ready for the manufacturing process. The Tool and Die Maker will report to the Tool and Die Supervisor. Responsibilities: * Support and follow the Company Safety Programs * Support and follow quality & environmental programs * Wash, prepare, and maintain dies * Troubleshooting * Reading and interpreting blueprints, design schematics, and CAD drawings * Visualizing and computing metal shapes and tolerances * Designing jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts * Measuring and marking metal stock for machining * Using overhead crane as needed * Setting up and running machine tools such as drills, lathes, grinders, and milling machines * Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions * Filling, grinding, and shimming metals to ensure a smooth finish * Fitting and assembling tools and die parts * Obtaining first piece approval * Making process improvements * Completing paperwork and revising process sheets * Shipping and receiving tooling * Transporting dies between storage areas and productions sites and maintaining die location records * Inspecting finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities * Conducting test runs with completed tools and dies * Perform all other work as deemed necessary by supervision Preferred Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED * Tool & Die Journeyperson card or relevant work experience * Ability to climb * Ability to lift 40 pounds unassisted * Knowledge of dies and repairs * Math skills (algebra) * Understand press operation Job Location: On the plant floor. Equipment Used: Overhead cranes, die movers, forklift, band saw, grinders, block and tackle, drill press, lathes, impact wrench, set-up wrench, hand tools, gauges, micrometers, jacks and extractors, protective earplugs and safety glasses. Truck mounted crane and tractor-trailer when applicable.
