Responsibilities
What you'll be challenged to do:
Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Driller to expand our drilling operations in our Ebensburg, PA based office, on a wide variety of geotechnical and/or environmental projects. The ideal candidate is a self-starting and motivated individual who can perform with minimal supervision, a team player, and one who takes pride in their work.
General Duties & Responsibilities (Work includes but is not limited to):
* Operation drill rig(s) and oversight of drilling operations for auger borings, standard penetration test (SPT) sampling, rock coring, monitoring well installations, infiltration testing and other types of drilling, as required.
* Collection of field data as required by specifications and/or job instructions.
* Training and supervision of drilling assistant on the drilling site.
* Meet production requirements and utilization goals.
* Communication with project managers, inspectors, clients, and supervisors., as required.
* Responsible for routine maintenance, repair and general condition of the drill rigs and other equipment.
* Consistent promotion and adherence to safe work practices, including the use of required personal protective equipment and compliance with site safety plans.
* Operation of DOT regulated vehicles and all responsibilities as required to stay in compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, including record keeping and equipment inspections.
* Travel is required, including occasional weekends and extended periods. All travel expenses, including travel time, are paid.
Qualifications

We have created a partnership to offer a DOL approved apprenticeship program as a Construction Craft Laborer. In this role you will be on sites, working and observing under an approved and trained mentor - or journeyworker. We will provide a documented training program to ensure you learn all aspects of the role and set you up to grow in your career as an experienced Exploration Team Member (ETM), potentially leading your own crew in time.
This is a traveling position. Your home location will be in Columbus, OH where your initial training will begin. Once the initial training is complete, you will be active in work at your home office and deployed as needed to work on projects across the US, having the opportunity to learn new skills, meet more of our outstanding ETM's and experience new and exciting projects.

This is an entry level position. No experience is required.
In time, as you move closer to being an ETM, you will perform subsurface exploration duties using conventional drilling or in-situ testing techniques. Drill methods may include auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary drilling, and diamond bit coring techniques. In-situ testing techniques may include cone penetration testing (CPT), pressure meter testing, and rock dilatometer testing. Work may also include the installation of instrumentation such as piezometers, monitor wells and inclinometers. As part of the apprenticeship program this role will also be involved in the installation and/or of steel test piles for solar project design. Work as part of a multiple person team on projects. ETMs will perform daily tasks including survey and locate drilling points; conduct site reconnaissance; load/unload tooling, materials and samples; classify soil and rock samples; perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on drilling equipment, prepare internal (daily field forms) and external (DOT Logs) paperwork.
Roles and responsibilities:
* Load tooling and materials.
* Assist in drilling operations
* Assistant in solar pile driving or testing operations. Collect soil and rock samples and log field data.
* Perform routine repairs and maintenance.
* Perform basic surveying and site reconnaissance.
* Drive a medium-duty truck and trailer.
* Learn to inspect and how to maintain equipment.
* Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
* Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

What you'll do:
Investigate sub surface conditions, recognize and identify soil and rock types and material classification
Operate drilling equipment at shallow to moderate depths to perform complex site investigations
Responsible for drill rig transportation
Train and direct Driller Assistants, identify and coordinate daily work schedules at job site
Direct site inquiries from general public to the project team
Prepare tooling and supplies for the day's tasks and loads/unloads/assembles/disassembles augers; trouble shoot drilling challenges
Retrieve / log samples and maintain record log of drilling activities

2 years' related geotechnical drilling experience

What are we looking for?
The Geotechnical Driller is responsible for performing a variety of drilling activities to obtain boring samples. Examples include soil drilling, rock coring, sampling, classifications, in-situ testing and monitoring well installation.

What you'll do:
* Investigate sub surface conditions, recognize and identify soil and rock types and material classification
* Operate drilling equipment at shallow to moderate depths to perform complex site investigations
* Responsible for drill rig transportation
* Train and direct Driller Assistants, identify and coordinate daily work schedules at job site
* Direct site inquiries from general public to the project team
* Prepare tooling and supplies for the day's tasks and loads/unloads/assembles/disassembles augers; trouble shoot drilling challenges
* Retrieve / log samples and maintain record log of drilling activities
* Clean and maintain equipment and perform site clean up

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
* 2 years' related geotechnical drilling experience
* Valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required
* Travel up to 50%
* Ability to lift, move, push and pull up to 50 pounds frequently; Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance
* Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound
* Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
* Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
* Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures
* Ability to climb occasionally, and work at various heights
* Ability to work over night hours and off shift
Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or equivalent
* Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A
